Nairobi to Samburu National Reserve

You depart your Nairobi hotel in a 4x4 safari Jeep. You'll drive north through the central Kenyan highlands, viewing farmlands and the base of Mount Kenya. You arrive at the reserve, crossing the Ewaso Nyiro River into Samburu National Reserve. You will enjoy a late lunch and relax at Samburu Simba Lodge. You embark on your first afternoon game drive to spot wildlife emerging in the cooler hours. You will return for dinner, and the overnight stay will be at the lodge.

Samburu National Reserve

You start with an early morning game drive to catch predators returning from the hunt. You will return to the lodge for lunch or take a packed picnic lunch to spend the entire day exploring the park's diverse scrubland. You will head to the riverine forests to look for the "Samburu Special Five": the Gerenuk, Reticulated Giraffe, Grevy's Zebra, Beisa Oryx, and Somali Ostrich. You return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Samburu National Reserve to Nanyuki

You will have breakfast and check out of your Samburu accommodation, and enjoy a final brief game drive as you exit the reserve. You begin your drive south, passing through the foothills of Mt. Kenya. Ensure you stop in Nanyuki for any last-minute provisions or a quick lunch at local favorites like Cedar Mall or Crafty Chef. You will enter Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Your transit to the camp will serve as your first game drive! You check into the luxury tents at Sweetwaters Serena Camp and watch out for wildlife wandering up to the camp's active waterhole. You will head out on a guided afternoon game drive to spot rhinos, lions, and elephants in the plains. You return for dinner and an overnight stay at the camp.

You will embark on an early morning game drive when predators are most active across the Eastern Grasslands. You will visit the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, home to Kenya's only rescued chimpanzees, followed by a touching encounter to feed Baraka, the resident blind black rhino. You will return to the camp for a full buffet lunch and a refreshing dip or siesta. Trade your standard afternoon game drive for an exhilarating night game drive. Nanyuki to Lake Nakuru National Park

After breakfast, you proceed for an early game drive, leaving Sweetwaters Serena Camp. You enter the main gates of Lake Nakuru National Park and drive up to Sarova Lion Hill Game Lodge. You check into your chalet-style room and enjoy a sumptuous lunch overlooking the sparkling Rift Valley soda lake. You head into the park for an afternoon game drive. Lake Nakuru is world-famous for its rhino sanctuaries (both endangered black and white rhinos) and dense acacia woodlands where rare tree-climbing lions and leopards reside. You drive up to Baboon Cliff for panoramic sunset views over the water. You will return to the lodge for a buffet dinner and an overnight stay.

After an early morning breakfast, you will leave camp with packed lunches for a full-day adventure. This is your chance to go deep into the reserve and track prides of lions, cheetahs, and leopards. If you are visiting during the Great Migration season (July to October), you head toward the Mara River to watch thousands of wildebeest plunge into the croc-infested waters. You will return to the camp for a sundowner drink and a warm, buffet-style dinner under the stars, followed by an overnight stay.

After a morning breakfast, you start with a pre-dawn game drive (the best time to spot predators returning from a hunt). Relax by the pool at the camp or book an optional guided Hot Air Balloon Safari for an aerial view of the plains at an extra cost of USD 520. Take a guided tour of a traditional Maasai Manyatta (village) to learn about the culture and see their iconic jumping dance. Follow this with an evening game drive in areas of the Mara you haven’t yet explored. You return for dinner and an overnight stay.
