Arrival and Transfer to Loziba

Your journey begins with arrival at Durban International Airport (King Shaka International Airport) before 1 PM, followed by a transfer to Loziba Wildlife Reserve.

The drive takes approximately three hours.

Upon arrival, you will settle in and enjoy a welcome dinner and a presentation of the programme for the following days.

Please note that accommodation is in a shared tented camp or a shared room in Eagle's View Cottage with another member of the volunteering group (double bed on request).

Introduction to the Reserve

You begin the day with introductions, bush guidelines, and an overview of Loziba and its conservation work.

In the afternoon, you will head out on a game drive with a focus on wildlife monitoring.

Later, you will visit a traditional Zulu kraal to gain insight into local customs, traditions, and cultural practices.

Community Conservation

In the morning, the day begins with breakfast. Afterwards, you will be taken and introduced to community conservation initiatives.

In the afternoon, you take part in a community project, contributing to the development of a local food garden.

Anti-Poaching and Field Operations

Participate in a workshop focused on anti-poaching strategies, including snare identification, patrol tactics, and wildlife protection challenges.

In the afternoon, you will head out on a game drive with a focus on detecting snares and monitoring wildlife.

The day may conclude with informal community activities such as local sports.

Wildlife Management and Research

You will begin with an early morning game drive.

Later, you will gain insight into wildlife management and the development of a private reserve, including long-term conservation strategies.

In the afternoon, you will contribute to conservation research initiatives, including work with local wildlife projects.

You will enjoy a full-day visit to Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park, one of Africa’s oldest reserves, renowned for its role in rhino conservation and Big Five wildlife.

Predator Monitoring and Fieldwork

You take part in camera trapping activities, including data collection and trap deployment.

Depending on field conditions, you may observe or assist in wildlife monitoring operations such as predator tracking or veterinary-supported collaring.

In the afternoon, you will enjoy time at a natural spring within the reserve.

Today, you will be transferred to Springbok Lodge for your first game drive in the Nambiti Private Game Reserve.

Located between the cities of Johannesburg and Durban in northeastern South Africa, the Nambiti Private Game Reserve is the ultimate escape, offering the Big Five in a malaria-free region in the heart of KwaZulu-Natal.
