Day 2-3

Game Drives in the Southern Kruger National Park

Game Drives in the Southern Kruger National Park

Your day begins before sunrise with an early morning game drive across Lukimbi's exclusive concession. With 15,000 hectares traversed by just 32 guests at any one time, the experience is notably intimate for a national park setting. Your experienced ranger & Shangaan tracker work the landscape with expertise, & the concession's three bordering river systems create a diversity of habitat, from open grassland to dense riverine thicket, that supports an exceptional variety of wildlife.

Buffalo, elephant, white rhino & lion are all regularly encountered, with black rhino present in the thicker wooded areas.
Each drive lasts approximately three hours with a refreshment stop along the way, coffee & rusks in the morning, sundowners as the light drops in the evening. After sundowners your tracker will spotlight for nocturnal animals before returning to camp for dinner. Return from the morning drive for a full breakfast & a midday rest before heading out again as the afternoon cools.

Transfer to Idube Game Lodge, Sabi Sand

Transfer to Idube Game Lodge, Sabi Sand

After an early morning game drive & breakfast, a private transfer will take you from Kruger National Park to the Sabi Sand Game Reserve for your two-night stay at Idube Game Lodge. Set in an indigenous garden shaded by ancient knobthorn trees, Idube is a family-owned classic safari lodge with a warm & personal character.

The reserve spans 10,000 hectares of prime Sabi Sand wilderness, & the lodge is particularly well known for its exceptional leopard sightings.

Accommodation is in individually decorated suites, each with a private plunge pool, private deck, en-suite bathroom with both indoor & outdoor shower, air conditioning, mosquito nets & minibar. The lodge's setting in the gardens means nyala & warthog wander the lawns freely throughout the day. One standout feature is the Shadulu Hide — a sunken wildlife hide reached via a swing bridge, set at water level beside the dam. It is a great place to observe animals & birds drinking at close quarters without detection.

Day 5

Game Drives in the Sabi Sand

Game Drives in the Sabi Sand

Your day begins with an early morning drive into the Sabi Sand, one of South Africa's finest private game reserves. Open vehicles, dedicated rangers and Shangaan trackers take you out into the bush - the game viewing here is as good as it gets.

Leopard sightings at Idube are legendary, and the reserve consistently delivers close encounters with lion, elephant, buffalo and rhino as well. Cheetah, wild dog, hippo and a remarkable variety of nocturnal species round out the evening drives.
Each drive runs approximately three hours, with coffee and rusks in the field at dawn and sundowners at a chosen spot in the reserve as the light fades.

Between drives, the Shadulu Hide is worth an hour of anyone's time - sit in silence at water level and let the bush come to you. Meals are served on the shaded timber deck or in the boma under the stars, and the lodge's unhurried atmosphere makes the midday hours between drives genuinely restful. Enjoy the spa and the pool during your siesta time.
