Transfer from Kigali to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

Your safari begins with an early morning pick-up from your hotel or Kigali International Airport in Kigali. After a short briefing, you depart for Uganda through the scenic hills of Rwanda, famously known as the “Land of a Thousand Hills.” Cross the Cyanika border and continue to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, situated within the Virunga Mountains in southwestern Uganda. Along the journey, you will enjoy spectacular views of rolling hills, local villages, and terraced farmland. Upon arrival, you check in at your lodge and relax while enjoying the beautiful mountain scenery. Depending on your arrival time, you may visit the Batwa community for a cultural experience. Your dinner and overnight stay will be at the lodge.

Gorilla Trekking in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

After an early breakfast, you will proceed to the park headquarters for a briefing by Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers about gorilla trekking guidelines and safety procedures. Accompanied by experienced guides and trackers, enter the forest in search of the Nyakagezi gorilla family, the only habituated gorilla family in Mgahinga. The trek can take between two and six hours, depending on the gorillas’ location. Once the gorillas are found, you will spend one unforgettable hour observing them as they feed, play, and interact in their natural habitat. You return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. In the afternoon, you will enjoy the spectacular views of the Virunga volcanoes or take an optional cultural walk. Your dinner and overnight stay will be at the lodge.

Golden Monkey Tracking and Return to Kigali

After breakfast, you will head back to the park headquarters for a briefing before beginning your golden monkey tracking experience. These rare and endangered primates are found only within the Virunga region and are known for their playful nature and beautiful golden-orange fur. The trek takes you through bamboo forests at the base of the volcanoes, offering excellent photography opportunities and stunning scenery. After the activity, you will return to the lodge for lunch and check out. You'll begin your return journey to Kigali, enjoying the scenic landscapes along the way. You'll arrive in Kigali in the evening and transfer to your hotel or Kigali International Airport, marking the end of your memorable safari.
