Lake Manyara National Park to Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, we depart for a game drive en route to Serengeti National Park as we pass by the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Be ready for a fantastic sight of the most famous wildlife sanctuary in the world—Serengeti National Park. Serengeti means ‘endless plains,’ which describes the park’s 14 500 square kilometers (5600 square miles) boundary. The Serengeti will not disappoint when it comes to game-viewing, as animals are abundant. Annually, from May to December, millions of zebra and wildebeest embark on a migration that brings them from central Serengeti to Kenya’s Masai Mara and back again—an incredible spectacle to observe. Even during the ‘down-time,’ vast herds of wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle roam here, along with groups of elephant, giraffe, and buffalo. We enjoy a picnic lunch in this open arena as the lions, leopard, cheetah, hyenas, and jackals stalk their meals. Your dinner and overnight stay are at Central Serengeti Luxury Camp.

The Serengeti is home to many kopjes. These rock formations are made from exposed granite. They protrude from the grassy plains, having been shaped over millions of years. Kopjes are a popular resting spot for lions and are thought to have inspired Pride Rock in the 1994 Disney classic The Lion King. Specifically, the Simba Kopjes are the tallest kopjes in the park and are named after the main character in the film.
