After breakfast, drive to the ancient Temple of Yeha, Ethiopia's oldest standing building, dating back nearly 2,700 years. Admire its remarkable dry-stone construction and learn about the pre-Axumite civilization and its South Arabian connections. Continue to the famous Debre Damo Monastery, dramatically perched atop a flat-topped mountain and accessible only by climbing a traditional leather rope. While monastery tradition allows only men to enter, all visitors can appreciate the spectacular scenery and learn about its rich history. Stop in the historic town of Adwa for lunch while overlooking the battlefield where Ethiopia secured its famous victory against Italy in 1896. Continue through the scenic Tigrayan highlands to Hawzen for dinner and an overnight stay.

After lunch, continue to Maryam Korkor and Daniel Korkor, reached by a rewarding hike through dramatic sandstone landscapes. Maryam Korkor is one of Tigray's largest rock-hewn churches, admired for its spacious interior and beautiful paintings, while Daniel Korkor offers peaceful surroundings and magnificent views over the Gheralta Mountains. Enjoy the peaceful surroundings before continuing to Mekelle for lunch. Depending on your flight schedule, there may be time to explore parts of the city before transferring to Mekelle Airport to Addis Ababa.
