In the afternoon, enjoy a relaxing boat safari on the Shire River, Liwonde's signature experience. Cruise alongside hippos and crocodiles while watching elephants gather at the water's edge, while your professional birder helps you identify the river's spectacular birdlife, making this an unforgettable wildlife and birding experience.

Morning and Evening Game Drive

Begin the day with an early morning game drive, taking advantage of the cool hours when predators and other wildlife are most active. After breakfast, head to the scenic Malape pillars which are a remarkable group of towering granite rock formations located near Liwonde National Park. Sculpted over millions of years by natural weathering and erosion, these impressive pillars rise dramatically above the surrounding landscape, creating one of the area's most distinctive geological landmarks. A visit offers a short hike, spectacular panoramic views of the Shire Valley, excellent photography opportunities, and a chance to appreciate Malawi's unique natural heritage in a peaceful setting.

Return to the lodge to relax before setting out on an evening game drive, where you may encounter elephants, buffalo, antelope, and, with luck, lions or cheetahs as they become active before nightfall.
