After breakfast, depart Addis Ababa on a scenic drive north through the Ethiopian Highlands, passing rolling farmland, eucalyptus forests and traditional villages. Along the way, your guide shares fascinating insights into Ethiopia's history, culture and daily life.
Arrive at the historic Debre Libanos Monastery, founded in the 13th century by Saint Tekle Haymanot, and explore its beautiful church, monastery grounds and museum while discovering the significance of this important Ethiopian Orthodox pilgrimage site.
Continue to the nearby Portuguese Bridge, where a short walk leads to spectacular viewpoints overlooking the dramatic Jemma River Gorge. Watch for endemic gelada monkeys grazing on the cliffs, offering wonderful opportunities for photography and wildlife observation.
