5-Day Maasai Mara, Lake Naivasha & Lake Nakuru Safari

Nairobi to Masai Mara

Your safari adventure kicks off with an early 6:30 AM pick-up from your Nairobi hotel or the airport, followed by a scenic drive down the Great Rift Valley escarpment. Around 8:00 AM, you’ll stop briefly at a viewpoint to enjoy sweeping views and take photos before continuing through the highlands and small towns to Masai Mara. You’ll arrive at your lodge or camp by around 1:00 PM, just in time for check-in and lunch. After a short rest, set out for an afternoon game drive from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM in the iconic Masai Mara National Reserve. This will be your first opportunity to spot lions, elephants, giraffes, buffalo, and many other species in their natural habitat. After the drive, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay inside or near the reserve.

Full-Day Game Drive in Masai Mara

Start your day with an early breakfast at 6:30 AM, then head out for a full-day game drive starting at around 7:30 AM. With packed picnic lunches in tow, you’ll spend the day exploring the expansive Mara ecosystem, home to Africa’s Big Five and thousands of other animals. The morning hours are ideal for spotting predators on the move, and you may even witness a
dramatic hunt or crossing (season-dependent). Around 12:30 PM, enjoy your picnic lunch at a scenic riverside spot or under a shaded acacia tree. The game drive continues into the afternoon, offering more chances to observe wildlife and the Mara’s stunning landscapes. Return to your lodge or camp by 5:30 PM for relaxation, followed by dinner and overnight.

Masai Mara to Nakuru via Naivasha

After breakfast at around 7:00 AM and check-out, you’ll make a stop at a traditional Maasai village from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM. This cultural visit allows you to interact with the local Maasai community, learn about their customs, visit their homes, and witness their famous jumping dance. From there, begin your drive toward Nakuru, with lunch enroute. After lunch, head to your lodge, arriving by around 4:00 PM for check-in. Spend the rest of the afternoon at leisure. Enjoy dinner and overnight at your lodge or hotel in Nakuru.

Lake Nakuru Game Drive & Lake Naivasha Boat Ride

After breakfast at 7:30 AM, check out from your lodge and head straight into Lake Nakuru National Park for a morning game drive from 8:00 AM to 10:30 AM. The park is known for its white and black rhinos, Rothschild giraffes, flamingos (seasonal), and elusive leopards. After the game drive, begin your short drive back to Naivasha, arriving by 12:30 PM for lunch. In the afternoon, enjoy a boat ride on Lake Naivasha from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM, where you’ll spot hippos and abundant birdlife. Afterward, take a guided walk on Crescent Island from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, a rare opportunity to walk alongside giraffes, zebras, and antelopes in a safe, predator-free environment. Check in to your lodge near the lake for dinner and overnight.

After breakfast at 7:30 AM, check out and proceed to Hell’s Gate National Park, arriving around 8:30 AM. From 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, enjoy a guided biking or walking safari through the park’s dramatic gorges, cliffs, and volcanic landscapes. Hell’s Gate offers a unique experience where you can walk or cycle alongside zebras, gazelles, and buffalo (Bikes are rented
from as low as 10$ each). After your excursion, begin the return journey to Nairobi, stopping for lunch en route around 1:00 PM. You’ll arrive in the city by 3:30 PM, with drop-off at your hotel, residence, or the airport — concluding your unforgettable 5-day safari through Kenya’s most iconic parks.
