Wake to the forest chorus and enjoy an early breakfast before heading to Kanyanchu Park Headquarters for a briefing by Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers. Kibale is home to an impressive 1,500 chimpanzees—the highest concentration in East Africa. Divide into groups of eight and enter the lush rainforest in search of habituated chimpanzee troops, habituated since 1992. Listen for their pant-hooting calls echoing through the canopy. Upon locating them, spend one magical hour observing their playful antics—grooming, feeding, and swinging effortlessly through the trees. Learn about other primates, local flora, and fauna from your expert guide. Return to the starting point for a hearty lunch. In the afternoon, travel south through Queen Elizabeth National Park, taking in the sights and looking out for resident game—elephants, buffaloes, and antelopes. Arrive near Bwindi in the evening. The trek can last 2–6 hours depending on gorilla movement.
