Depart Nairobi for a 4-5 hour drive through fertile agricultural country to Chogoria town on the eastern slopes of Mount Kenya. Continue up through dense montane forest into the bamboo zone, where the trek begins. Hike approximately 10km over 3 hours to reach Chogoria Park Gate, keeping an eye out for colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, bushbucks, and dikdiks along the way. Arrive at Chogoria Bandas, a budget mountain hut, for lunch, dinner, and your first overnight on the mountain.

Day 2
Chogoria to Nithi River
Chogoria to Nithi River
Depart after breakfast and continue hiking up the mountain as bamboo vegetation gradually gives way to Hagenia trees draped in Spanish moss, home to a variety of birds and insects. Continue climbing into the giant heather zone, taking a scenic detour to Lake Ellis for a picnic lunch. After a 4-5 hour hike, reach your campsite on the banks of the Nithi River, where you'll spend the night. Enjoy dinner and rest up for the more demanding trek ahead.

Day 3

After breakfast, begin a long and gradual climb along the Gorges Valley escarpment, taking in some of the most striking scenery on the Chogoria Route. Pass by features including the Temple, scenic lakes, Vivienne Falls, and the curious mushroom-shaped rocks, before entering moorlands characterized by tussock grasses and giant lobelia and senecio plants. The 6-7 hour hike brings you to Mintos Campsite, where you'll enjoy dinner and rest ahead of tomorrow's summit attempt.

Day 4
Point Lenana Summit to Shiptons Camp
Point Lenana Summit to Shiptons Camp
Begin a predawn summit attempt at 3:00am, hiking approximately three hours to reach Point Lenana (4,985m), the trekkers' summit, in time to witness a spectacular African sunrise. From the top, enjoy sweeping views of Point Nelion, Point Batian, and on clear days, even Mount Kilimanjaro over 340km to the south. Descend the scree slopes to Shiptons Camp, arriving in time for a well-earned breakfast. Spend the rest of the day at leisure, resting up after your summit achievement.
Day 5
Shiptons Camp to Judmaier Camp
Shiptons Camp to Judmaier Camp
After breakfast, begin a gradual descent through the Mackinder and Likii valleys, a much more leisurely day with only a few short climbs along the valley walls and mostly downhill walking. The 4-5 hour trek brings you to Judmaier Camp in time for lunch. Spend the afternoon at leisure, resting your legs and reflecting on your summit success before your final day on the mountain. Dinner and overnight at camp.

Day 6
Descent to Sirimon Gate and Nairobi
Descent to Sirimon Gate and Nairobi
Start the day with breakfast to fuel your final descent, then hike down through the moorlands to Sirimon Park Gate (2,600m). This last stretch takes approximately 2 hours and marks the end of your trekking days. From the gate, connect with your vehicle for the transfer back to Nairobi, bringing your Mount Kenya adventure to a close. Reflect on your journey as you pass through the scenic countryside on the drive back to the city. Get to Nairobi to end the tour.
