The Park takes its name from the Tarangire River, which flows through the area. This “river of warthogs” serves as the main water source for wildlife in the region during the dry season. The Park is famous for its large elephant herds, often seen gathering along the river. You may also spot giraffes, bushbucks, and hartebeests. These herbivores attract a variety of predators, including lions and leopards. Tarangire is also home to more breeding bird species than anywhere else on the planet.
