Our adventure begins in Nairobi, where you’ll board a morning flight to the famous Maasai Mara. As the city gives way to Kenya’s open savannahs, you’ll get your first glimpse of the landscapes that make the Mara so special. On arrival, your guide will meet you and take you to your safari lodge or camp. After lunch and some time to settle in, head out for your first game drive. Keep your eyes open—you never know what may appear around the next bend. Return to camp in the evening for dinner and your first night under the African sky.

Wake up to the sounds of the bush and set out on an early morning game drive, when the wildlife is most active. The Maasai Mara is home to an incredible variety of animals, and this is your chance to begin searching for the Big Five—lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and rhino along with cheetahs, giraffes, zebras and countless other species. After breakfast and some time to relax at the lodge, head out again in the afternoon for another game drive as the golden light begins to settle over the plains.

Today is all about enjoying the Maasai Mara at your own pace. After breakfast, spend the day exploring different parts of the reserve with your experienced guide, with a picnic lunch in the bush or a break at the lodge before an afternoon game drive. Every safari is different, and that is part of the magic you might come across a pride of lions resting in the grass, elephants moving across the plains or a cheetah scanning the horizon. If you prefer a slower afternoon, you can relax at the lodge or arrange an optional Maasai cultural experience or sundowner.

After breakfast, take a scheduled flight from the Maasai Mara to Nairobi and connect with your onward flight to Kigali, Rwanda. On arrival, your Rwandan guide will meet you and transfer you to your hotel in Kigali. Take the evening to relax and enjoy the comfort of your hotel after the journey. This overnight stop also gives you a comfortable start for the drive to Volcanoes National Park tomorrow.33336.

After breakfast and check-out, begin your day with a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial. This important memorial and educational centre commemorates the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and provides visitors with an opportunity to learn about Rwanda's history, remembrance and journey of reconciliation.
After the visit, depart Kigali and begin the scenic drive north towards Volcanoes National Park, home to Rwanda's mountain gorillas. The journey takes approximately three hours and passes through Rwanda's beautiful rolling hills, villages and countryside. Enjoy lunch en route before continuing towards the Virunga Mountains.
On arrival in the Volcanoes region, visit the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, an inspiring conservation and education centre dedicated to gorilla research and protection. The visit offers a fascinating introduction to mountain gorilla conservation and adds meaning to the experience awaiting you tomorrow.

Gorilla Trekking Experience

Gorilla Trekking Experience

After an early breakfast, depart for the park headquarters where you will receive a briefing and be assigned to a gorilla family. Accompanied by experienced guides and park rangers, you will begin your trek through Volcanoes National Park in search of your assigned gorilla group.
The trek can take several hours depending on where the gorillas are located. Once you find them, you will have the unforgettable opportunity to observe these magnificent animals in their natural habitat as they feed, play, rest, groom and interact with their young.
Volcanoes National Park protects the steep slopes of the Virunga Mountains and a rich mosaic of montane ecosystems, including bamboo and evergreen forests, open grassland, swamp and heath.

After an early breakfast and check-out, set off for a memorable golden monkey trekking experience. At the park headquarters, you will receive a briefing before beginning your trek with an experienced guide in search of these playful and colourful primates.
Golden monkeys are endemic to the Virunga region, and the trek offers a wonderful opportunity to observe them in their natural habitat while enjoying the lush bamboo forest and spectacular mountain scenery.
Following the trek, return to the lodge for a well-deserved lunch before beginning your scenic drive back to Kigali. The journey takes approximately three hours and provides one final opportunity to enjoy Rwanda's beautiful rolling hills and countryside.
