Day 1

Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa

Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa

Pick up from your hotel in Moshi in the morning and drive to Londorossi Gate to start your Lemosho Route trek. The trail winds gently through lush montane forest, passing towering trees and diverse tropical vegetation, before reaching Mti Mkubwa Camp at 2,785 m, where you'll settle in for dinner and an overnight stay. The hike covers approximately 6 km and takes 3–4 hours.

Day 2

Mti Mkubwa to Shira 1

Mti Mkubwa to Shira 1

Continue your ascent as the trail leaves the rainforest and enters the moorland zone, surrounded by giant heather and striking plant life. The path winds over the Shira Ridge before gently descending to Shira 1 Camp, located on the open Shira Plateau. Today's hike covers approximately 8 km and takes 5 to 6 hours.

Day 3

Shira 1 to Shira 2

Shira 1 to Shira 2

Enjoy a gentle hike across the open moorland of the Shira Plateau, a relatively easy section designed to help with acclimatization. The trail offers stunning views of Kibo Peak as you make your way to Shira 2 Camp (3,850 m). For those feeling energetic, there is an optional acclimatization hike toward Cathedral Point. This section covers approximately 7 km and takes about 3 to 4 hours.

Day 4

Shira 2 to Barranco Camp

Shira 2 to Barranco Camp

Hike from Shira 2 Camp up to the towering Lava Tower at 4,630 m, a rugged volcanic formation that offers stunning views. After a rest, descend into the scenic Barranco Valley, passing through the unique Senecio Forest to Barranco Camp (3,960 m). This climb-high, sleep-low strategy is vital for acclimatization. Today’s trek covers approximately 10 km and takes 6 to 9 hours.

Day 5

Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

This morning, tackle the iconic Barranco Wall, a steep rock scramble that is one of the most thrilling parts of the trek. Once at the top, you'll be rewarded with panoramic views before continuing on a traverse through alpine desert landscapes to Karanga Camp. This is a shorter day, covering approximately 4–6 km and taking about 4 to 5 hours, allowing for rest and acclimatization ahead of the summit push.

Day 6

Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

The trek from Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp covers approximately 3 to 4 km and takes about 3 to 4 hours, as you gain over 600 m in altitude. Arrive at Barafu Camp (4,673 m), your final base camp, for a very early dinner and a few hours of rest before your midnight departure for the summit.

Day 7

Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak

Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak

Leaving Barafu Camp at midnight for the summit climb, covering approximately 18 km with 8–10 hours of hiking, you reach Uhuru Peak at 5,895 m, where the sunrise and spectacular views await. After the summit, you descend past Barafu Camp and continue through alpine desert and forest to Mweka Camp at 3,100 m for rest, dinner, and overnight.

Day 8

Uhuru Peak to Mweka Gate

Uhuru Peak to Mweka Gate

The descent from Mweka Camp winds through the forest to Mweka Gate, where you receive your summit certificates and complete the trek, covering approximately 10 km with 3–4 hours of hiking, after which you will be driven back to your hotel in Moshi.
