Day 1

Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut

Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut

Your adventure begins with a morning pickup from your hotel in Arusha or Moshi and a scenic drive to Marangu Gate. After registration and meeting your mountain guide, step beneath the cool canopy of Kilimanjaro's rainforest and begin your walk into the mountain. With every step, the sounds of everyday life fade away. Birds call from the trees, sunlight filters through the canopy, and if you're lucky, playful black-and-white colobus monkeys appear among the branches. The trail climbs steadily as you settle into the rhythm of the mountain and take in the fresh air and changing scenery. After several hours, you'll reach Mandara Hut, where you can rest, enjoy your packed lunch, and let the feeling of standing on Kilimanjaro sink in. If time and energy allow, take a short walk toward Maundi Crater for beautiful views. Later, descend through the rainforest to Marangu Gate before continuing to Moshi for a shower dinner, and a comfortable overnight stay.

Materuni Waterfalls, Coffee & Chemka Hot Springs

After breakfast, leave Moshi behind and travel toward Materuni Village, where the green slopes of Kilimanjaro meet the quiet life of the Chagga people. A guided walk leads you through lush farmland and forest toward Materuni Waterfall. Listen to the sound of rushing water growing louder as you approach then pause to enjoy the falls and surrounding scenery before returning to the village. Here, you'll discover the traditional coffee-making process from roasting and grinding the beans to preparing your own fresh cup, followed by a local Chagga lunch. Later, continue to Chemka Hot Springs, where the pace changes completely. After the mountain hike, slip into the warm, clear water, relax beneath the trees, and simply enjoy the moment. As afternoon turns toward evening return to Moshi or to Kilimanjaro International Airport feeling refreshed, carrying memories not only of Kilimanjaro but also of the people culture and landscapes that make this part of Tanzania special.
