Day 1
Nairobi to Nyandarua, Three Waterfalls & The Rhino Ark
Nairobi to Nyandarua, Three Waterfalls & The Rhino Ark
Morning: Depart Nairobi early, the city's rhythm fading as you climb into the central highlands. The road winds through tea plantations and small towns until you reach the Matubio Gate entry point into the Aberdare forest.
Afternoon: Your guide leads you along a trail that weaves through bamboo and giant heather, the air growing cooler and wetter with each step. You visit three waterfalls in succession—each one a hidden treasure, water carving its way through ancient volcanic rock. The first is a gentle cascade, the second a thunderous curtain, and the third a narrow plunge into a deep, green pool. Picnic lunch by the water's edge, the spray cool on your skin.
Evening: Drive to the Rhino Ark Lodge, your home for the night. Settle in as the golden light fades over the Salient. The evening is quiet, punctuated only by the calls of bushbuck and the distant rumble of elephant. A hearty dinner and an early rest—tomorrow, the summit awaits.

Mount Satima via Rhino Gate, The Summit & Twin Rock
Pre-Dawn (4:30 AM): A gentle wake-up call at Rhino Ark Lodge. A thermos of hot coffee, and you are on the road to Rhino Gate, the eastern access point to Satima's summit.
Morning: The climb is steady, the air thinning as you push through the moorland zone. Giant heathers, twisted by wind and time, lean into the mist like ancient sentinels. As the sun rises, it sets the eastern ridges ablaze—a fiery prelude to the summit ahead. You reach the summit of Mount Satima (4,001m) as the first light breaks the horizon.
Late Morning: Begin your descent past the famous Twin Rock—two colossal volcanic pillars that stand like silent guardians over the moorland. Their jagged forms catch the morning light, casting long shadows across the heather. A perfect spot for photos and a moment of quiet reflection.
Afternoon: Continue the descent back to Rhino Gate, the weight of the summit lifting with every step. Return to Rhino Ark Lodge for a hot shower and a well-earned rest.

Rhino Ark to Chania to Zaina Waterfall & Gura Camp
Morning: After breakfast at Rhino Ark Lodge, we drive you to the Chania area, deeper into the Aberdare forest. The road narrows as you enter the riverine zone, where the air is thick with moisture and the sound of rushing water is never far away. Your guide meets you at the trailhead, a local expert whose footsteps have traced these paths for years.
Afternoon: The trail descends gently through thick bamboo and moss-draped trees until you reach the Zaina Waterfall—a hidden jewel where water plunges over a sheer rock face into a crystal-clear pool. After a rest, you continue the hike, the trail following the river's course.
Evening: Arrive at Gura Camp, widely regarded as one of the finest campsites in the Aberdare region. Nestled beside the Chania River, its sprawling green lawns and ancient fig trees create an oasis of tranquillity.
