Dar es Salaam to Mafia Island

After breakfast, enjoy some free time to explore the streets of Dar es Salaam before departing from Julius Nyerere International Airport for your afternoon flight to Mafia Island. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your lodge for check-in and a brief refreshment before embarking on a guided Chole Island Tour.

Chole Island is renowned for its rich history, vibrant local community, and fruit bat sanctuary, one of the most notable in East Africa. During the tour, you will have the opportunity to learn about the island’s cultural heritage, explore historical sites associated with the former slave trade, and experience the traditional way of life of the local community. The day concludes with a beautiful sunset sailing experience, offering spectacular views of the surrounding Indian Ocean.

After the tour, return to your lodge for relaxation, dinner, and an overnight stay.

Mafia Island – Whale Shark Experience

After breakfast, depart from the lodge for an exciting whale shark excursion. These magnificent marine giants are seasonally found in the waters just a few hundred metres offshore near Kilindoni Harbour. A short boat ride to the western side of the island takes you to their feeding grounds, where you may have the opportunity to observe these gentle creatures in their natural environment.

With the guidance of experienced boat crew, you will have the opportunity to swim and snorkel alongside these gentle giants while maintaining a respectful distance and following responsible wildlife-viewing practices.

After the whale shark experience, enjoy a relaxing lunch on a beautiful sandbank surrounded by the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. Later, return by boat to the lodge for some leisure time, followed by dinner and an overnight stay.

Mafia Island – Departure to Dar es Salaam

Depending on your flight schedule, you will check out and be transferred to Mafia Island Airport for your return flight to Dar es Salaam.

Upon arrival in Dar es Salaam, the trip concludes with a drop-off at your preferred location, marking the end of your memorable Mafia Island getaway.
