After breakfast at Miriakamba Hut, the trek continues with a steady ascent through lush montane forest, home to giant ferns, ancient fig trees, and abundant birdlife. As you gain altitude, the vegetation gradually gives way to heather and open moorland, revealing expansive views of the surrounding valleys. The trail becomes steeper today, but the pace remains steady, with regular breaks to enjoy the scenery and watch for wildlife, including colobus monkeys and buffalo in the forest below.

Midway through the trek, you will reach Mgongo wa Tembo (Elephant Ridge), a spectacular viewpoint offering breathtaking panoramas, with views of Mount Kilimanjaro on clear days. From here, the trail continues through increasingly rocky terrain before the final ascent to Saddle Hut, nestled between Little Meru and the main summit.

The journey starts around midnight with a steep climb from Saddle Hut towards Rhino Point under a star-filled sky. The trail follows a narrow, rocky ridge between the crater wall and outer slopes, passing Cobra Point before the final push to Socialist Peak (4,566m). Arrive at sunrise to breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the volcanic Ash Cone inside the crater.

After celebrating your summit, descend back to Saddle Hut for brunch, then continue down through moorland and lush forest to Momella Gate.
