Day 2

Moshi - Lemosho Gate- Mti mkubwa camp

Moshi - Lemosho Gate- Mti mkubwa camp

After breakfast, drive to Lemosho Gate (about 1 hour). Meet your mountain team, check your equipment, complete park registration, and begin the trek.

The trail leads through lush rainforest filled with moss-covered trees, ferns, birds, and occasional Colobus or blue monkeys. After a gentle climb, arrive at Mti Mkubwa Camp, surrounded by dense forest.

After breakfast, leave the rainforest behind as the trail climbs through heath and giant heather toward the spectacular Shira Plateau. Enjoy your first impressive views of Kibo, with the landscape becoming drier and more open as altitude increases.

Arrive at Shira 1 Camp and enjoy the surrounding scenery and sunset.

A gentler day designed for acclimatization. Trek across the vast Shira Plateau through volcanic sand and ancient rock, with spectacular views of Kibo and its distant glaciers.

Take time to walk slowly, breathe deeply, and enjoy the unique alpine scenery before arriving at Shira 2 Camp.

Day 5

A key acclimatization day, climbing through a stark, volcanic landscape to Lava Tower (4,630 m). After a short rest, descend toward Barranco, where giant senecios appear among the dramatic cliffs and valleys.

Arrive at Barranco Camp, one of Kilimanjaro’s most scenic camps, surrounded by spectacular mountain scenery.

Barranco – Karanga Camp

Start the day with the famous Barranco Wall ( 4,035 m ). Climb carefully using hands where needed, with no technical difficulty, while enjoying spectacular views of the valley and Kibo’s glaciers.

Continue through rugged, glacier-carved valleys to Karanga Camp. This shorter day allows time to rest and prepare for the summit push.

Vegetation : Alpine desert, rocks, sparse vegetation

Day 7

Karanga – Barafu Camp

The landscape becomes stark and almost lunar, with volcanic ash, dark rocks, and virtually no vegetation. The climb is steady and slow as the altitude increases.

Arrive at Barafu Camp, the base for your final summit ascent. Spend the afternoon resting, preparing your equipment, and mentally preparing for the summit night. Dinner is served early before a short night of sleep.

Vegetation: High-altitude desert, barren volcanic terrain

Begin the summit climb around midnight under the stars, using headlamps. The ascent is slow and steady through the cold, dark alpine terrain toward Stella Point.

Watch the sunrise over Africa before continuing to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m), the highest point in Africa. Celebrate your achievement and enjoy breathtaking views before beginning the long descent to Mweka Camp.

Elevation : +1,200 m / -2,800 m
