Day 1

Arusha to Kigoma

Arusha to Kigoma

Board a charter flight from Arusha to Kigoma. You will be met at the airstrip and transferred to the Kigoma Hilltop Hotel. The hotel is set on a remote outcrop amongst acres of lush gardens overlooking Lake Tanganyika. Kigoma is the largest town found on Lake Tanganyika and is the gateway to Tanzania’s western parks.

After lunch visit the small village of Ujiji, here you will find the famous location where the words “Dr Livingstone, I presume” were spoken by Henry Morton Stanley. The site where this is thought to have occurred is marked by a plaque, between the town and the shore, on Livingstone Street. See also the mango trees that are associated by the slavery history. Dinner and overnights stay at Kigoma Hilltop Hotel.

Day 2

Kigoma to Gombe Stream National Park

Kigoma to Gombe Stream National Park

After an early breakfast you will board a boat and make your way in true African style to Gombe Stream National Park. The boat safari takes about 2 hours and there will be many photographic opportunities as you sail past the jungle, game viewing from the decks of the boat. You will disembark and make your way up the beach to the Gombe Rest house. You will arrive in time to enjoy lunch, after which you will depart for your first trek to observe the world-famous chimpanzees that inhabit this park. The chimps are the main attraction and were made famous by the pioneering work of Jane Goodall, who in 1960 founded a research program that now stands as the longest running study of its kind in the world. Dinner and overnight at Kasekela Luxury Tent.

Day 3

Chimpanzee Trekking & Waterfalls visit

Chimpanzee Trekking & Waterfalls visit

After breakfast, embark on a trek into the forest to observe Gombe’s habituated chimpanzees as they go about their daily activities. Your experienced guide will help you identify individual chimpanzees and share fascinating insights into their unique personalities and behaviors.

As you explore the forest, you may also be lucky enough to encounter other primates that inhabit Gombe, including olive baboons, blue monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, vervet monkeys, and red colobus monkeys. Gombe is also home to an impressive diversity of birdlife, with around 250 recorded species, as well as numerous beautifully colored butterflies that flutter beneath the lush green canopy.

Continue your adventure with a hike to the spectacular Kakombe Waterfalls, surrounded by the serene beauty of the forest. After the trek, return to the rest house for lunch and dinner, followed by a relaxing evening.

After an early breakfast, bid farewell to the beautiful Gombe Stream National Park and embark on a scenic boat transfer across the tranquil waters of Lake Tanganyika to Kigoma. Upon arrival, continue your onward journey to Arusha or Dar es Salaam by private charter flight, or alternatively, connect with the regular scheduled service operated by Air Tanzania.

As you depart Gombe, take in the final breathtaking views of Lake Tanganyika and its surrounding landscapes. This scenic journey marks the conclusion of an unforgettable safari experience, bringing your adventure to a comfortable and seamless close.
