Dar es salaam to Rubondo via Mwanza

Upon arrival in Dar es Salaam, you will be met by our safari representative and assisted with your onward journey to Mwanza, the vibrant lakeside city located on the shores of Lake Victoria. You will have breakfast before you proceed to Rubondo. Depending on your flight schedule, you will continue by road towards Geita and Ngome, where you will board a boat for the journey across Lake Victoria to Rubondo Island.

The boat transfer is an experience in itself, offering beautiful views across the lake and the possibility of seeing waterbirds and local fishermen along the way. As you approach Rubondo Island National Park, the peaceful surroundings and forest-covered landscape provide an exciting introduction to the wilderness.

Upon arrival, you will check in at your accommodation and have time to relax and enjoy the natural surroundings. In the evening, enjoy dinner and prepare for the exciting activities planned for the following days.

Walking Safari & Bird watching

After breakfast, begin your day with a guided walking safari through the beautiful forests of Rubondo Island. Walking through the forest gives you a chance to experience the wilderness at a slower pace and appreciate the smaller details that are often missed during a vehicle safari.

Rubondo is particularly famous for its rich birdlife, with more than 400 species recorded. Keep your eyes and ears open for colorful kingfishers, flycatchers, fish eagles and many other forest and waterbird species. Your guide will explain the behavior and habitats of the birds you encounter.

After lunch, continue with an exciting chimpanzee trekking experience. Trekking through the forest in search of them is an exciting experience, and your guide will help you understand their behavior, movements and relationship with the surrounding ecosystem.
After the activity, return to the lodge or camp for relaxation, dinner and an overnight stay.

Boat Safari, Sport Fishing and Visit Crocodile Island

After breakfast, set out for a memorable boat safari on Lake Victoria. The boat ride provides a different perspective of Rubondo Island and its surrounding waters. As you cruise along the shoreline, enjoy the beautiful scenery and look out for waterbirds, fish eagles and other wildlife living around the lake.

You will then have the opportunity to take part in a fishing activity. Lake Victoria is well known for its rich fish population, and fishing gives you a chance to experience one of the traditional activities associated with the lake. Whether you are an experienced angler or trying fishing for the first time, it is a fun way to enjoy the lake and its peaceful surroundings.

Later, continue by boat to Crocodile Island, where you can explore the area and observe crocodiles and other wildlife from a safe distance. The visit provides an interesting opportunity to learn more about the reptiles and the role they play in the aquatic ecosystem.

Rubondo to Mwanza

As you prepare for your onward journey, your travel arrangements will determine the next step. You may board the boat back to Ngome and continue by road to Mwanza, or take a flight to another part of Tanzania to explore more of the country’s incredible attractions.

This marks the end of your Rubondo Island adventure, leaving you with unforgettable memories of the island’s lush forests, diverse wildlife, spectacular birdlife, chimpanzees, and the beautiful waters of Lake Victoria.
