Nairobi to Samburu

Leave Nairobi in the morning and travel north towards Samburu, passing through changing landscapes as the highlands give way to the drier scenery of northern Kenya. Arrive in the Samburu region in time for lunch before heading out on your first game drive. Explore the reserve in search of elephants, lions, leopards, reticulated giraffes, Grevy’s zebras, gerenuks, Beisa oryx and other wildlife associated with this unique ecosystem. Return to the camp in the evening for dinner and your first night in the region.

Full-Day Samburu Safari

Spend a full day exploring Samburu National Reserve, following wildlife across its dry plains, rocky landscapes and riverine areas. The reserve is particularly known for northern species such as Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, Beisa oryx and Somali ostrich, while elephants, lions, leopards and other familiar safari species are also found here. With a full day in the reserve, there is time to follow wildlife sightings at a relaxed pace and explore different areas before returning to Sopa Lodge Samburu for the evening.

Samburu to the Maasai Mara

After breakfast, leave Samburu and continue south towards the Maasai Mara. The journey takes you through changing landscapes and communities before reaching the Mara ecosystem. After lunch and settling into Tipilikwani Mara Camp, head out for your first game drive in the Mara. Look for elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest and antelope across the open plains, while keeping an eye out for lions, cheetahs and other predators. Return to camp in the evening for your first night in the Mara.

Full-Day Maasai Mara Safari

Spend a full day exploring the Maasai Mara, with morning and afternoon game drives across the reserve. The open grasslands provide opportunities to encounter lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest and numerous other species. Take your time at interesting sightings and follow the day’s wildlife activity rather than rushing between locations. During the migration season, the Mara can also host large concentrations of wildebeest and zebra. Return to Tipilikwani Mara Camp for your final evening.

Continue towards Nairobi and arrive later in the day, where your private transfer can take you to the airport or your next accommodation, marking the end of your Samburu and Maasai Mara safari.
