Transfer from Nairobi to Samburu

Depart the Nairobi city early morning and travel approximately 350km north towards the rugged and beautiful landscapes of Samburu County, passing through the changing scenery of Kenya’s central highlands that opens up to the unique semi-arid environment of northern Kenya.

Arrive at your lodge or camp in time for lunch and check-in, refresh then set out in the afternoon for your first game drive in Samburu National Reserve in search for the famous Samburu Special Five—the Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, Beisa oryx, and Somali ostrich, species rarely encountered in other parts of Kenya.

As the afternoon cools, continue your game drive through the reserve, enjoying the spectacular scenery and watching wildlife against the backdrop of the Ewaso Ng’iro River and rugged Samburu landscapes.

Return to the lodge or camp in the evening for dinner and overnight, surrounded by the peaceful atmosphere of northern Kenya.

Explore Samburu National Reserve

Wake up early at Ashnil Samburu Camp and enjoy breakfast before heading out for an exciting morning game drive through Samburu National Reserve. The early hours provide some of the best wildlife viewing opportunities, as the animals are active in the cool morning temperatures.

Explore the reserve along the banks of the Ewaso Ng’iro River, watching for elephants coming down to drink and large herds of buffaloes, as well as lions, leopards, giraffes, zebras, and various antelope species. Keep a special lookout for Samburu’s unique Special Five—the Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, Beisa oryx, and Somali ostrich.

Return to Ashnil Samburu for lunch and some time to relax while enjoying the tranquil surroundings of the camp.

In the afternoon, explore different sections of the reserve in search of wildlife and enjoying the spectacular northern Kenya scenery. As the sun begins to set, the changing light creates a beautiful backdrop for photography and wildlife viewing.

Transfer from Samburu to Nairobi

Enjoy an early breakfast at Ashnil Samburu Camp before checking out and beginning your scenic drive back to Nairobi. As you leave Samburu, take in the beautiful landscapes of northern Kenya, with the rugged hills, open plains, and distinctive vegetation gradually giving way to the greener central highlands.

Continue southwards through the countryside, with a brief stop along the way for refreshments and a chance to stretch your legs.

Proceed to Nairobi, arriving in the afternoon or early evening. Drop off at your hotel, residence, or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, depending on your onward travel arrangements.
