Day 1

Kigali City tour and transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Kigali City tour and transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, your safari guide will meet you for a safari briefing. You’ll then enjoy a short introduction to Kigali. The city is known for its clean streets, rolling hills and welcoming atmosphere. You’ll also pay a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial Center, the final resting place for more than 250,000 victims of the Genocide against the Tutsi. The center is an extremely moving, challenging, educational, and ultimately inspiring place to understand the cause, tragedy, and successful rebuilding after the Genocide.

Later in the day, depart Kigali and drive towards Volcanoes National Park. The journey takes you through the beautiful Rwandan countryside, with its rolling hills, small villages and agricultural landscapes.
You’ll arrive at your lodge late in the afternoon, check in, and spend the remainder of the day relaxing and enjoying the spectacular surroundings of the Volcanoes National Park.

Golden Monkey Tracking and Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Golden Monkey Tracking and Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Wake up early for breakfast and transfer to the park head office in Kinigi by 7:00 am. Join other Golden Monkey trekkers and meet the ranger guide for a few minutes to talk about the activity and the park. At 8:00 am, you'll transfer to the trailhead just outside the park. Enjoy great mountain views as you start your trek into the park to find the golden monkeys. The golden monkeys live near the park's edge in the bamboo forests, where the ground is relatively flat and easy to trek. Find the monkeys and follow them as they feed, noticing how skillfully they pick young bamboo leaves from the tips of the trees. They may also move out of the park into the potato fields; how they love the potatoes!

After an amazing one hour with the golden monkeys, you will return to the trailhead and drive back to the lodge for lunch. Thereafter, head to the border, where, after clearing, you will proceed to Bwindi for an overnight stay.

Day 3

Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Wake early for a hearty breakfast to fuel your gorilla trek at Bwindi. Before 8:00 am, report to the ranger station for registration and a talk by one of the rangers. The guides will then take you through the bush, pushing through the undergrowth to track the gorillas. (Please note this trek can take from 30 minutes to 5-6 hours) depending on the location and movement of the gorilla family. The terrain can be steep and muddy, so a reasonable level of fitness is recommended, along with sturdy walking shoes. Once you locate the gorillas, you will have approximately one hour to observe them, photograph them, and watch their fascinating social behavior. After the encounter, trek back through the forest to the park headquarters and meet your safari vehicle.

Return to your lodge for lunch and relaxation. In the afternoon, visit the Batwa community for a cultural experience. This cultural experience will give you a chance to see how the Batwa have lived in Bwindi for millennia.
