4-Day Mount Meru Trekking Experience

Arrival in Arusha

Your Tanzanian adventure begins the moment you arrive. Upon touching down at Kilimanjaro International Airport or arriving at the local Arusha bus terminal, you will be warmly welcomed by a professional representative from Meru Slopes Tours & Safaris.

You will be promptly transferred to your pre-trek accommodation, the welcoming Arusha Tourist Inn. Here, you can check into your room and take some well-deserved time to unwind, shower, and relax after your long journey. The rest of your afternoon is dedicated to crucial pre-climb preparations.

Later in the day, you will have a comprehensive meet-and-greet with your highly experienced Mount Meru head mountain guide. During this session, your guide will conduct a meticulous trekking gear check to ensure you have all the necessary equipment, layered clothing, and proper footwear required to safely conquer the mountain's changing altitudes and temperatures.

Arusha to Momella Gate to Miriakamba Hut

In the morning, you will be driven from your hotel to Momella Gate. Once park formalities are cleared, your trek begins accompanied by an armed park ranger, walking through wildlife-rich areas until you reach Miriakamba Hut (2,514m) where you will have dinner and rest. Distance: 10 km Hiking Time: 4-5 hours.

Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut

Today features a steep ascent towards Saddle Hut (3,570m). After a hot lunch at the camp, you will have the opportunity to hike up Little Meru for acclimatization. You will then return to the camp for dinner and sleep early in preparation for the midnight summit push. Distance: 8 km Hiking Time: 3-5 hours.

Saddle Hut to Socialist Peak (Summit), Descend to Momella Gate & Return to Arusha

Unlike the 4-day package, this is a very long and demanding day. You will start at midnight to summit Socialist Peak (4,562m) in time for sunrise. Afterward, you will descend the entire mountain, passing through Saddle Hut and Miriakamba Hut, all the way down to Momella Gate. Our vehicle will be waiting to transfer you back to Arusha.
Distance: 5 km ascent, 22 km descent Hiking Time: 12-14 hours.
