Day 1

After breakfast at 8:00 am, depart Nairobi by shared shuttle for the scenic drive to Sirimon Gate (2,650m), the starting point of your adventure. After registration and briefing, begin your 9 km trek (3–4 hours) through indigenous forest, home to wildlife such as colobus monkeys and a variety of birdlife. As you gain altitude, the landscape opens into beautiful moorland with views of the surrounding peaks. Arrive at Judmaier (Old Moses) Camp (3,300m) in time to relax, acclimatize, and take in the fresh mountain air. Dinner and overnight in tents at the campsite.

Day 2

Wake up at 6:00 am, pack your gear, and enjoy an early breakfast at 6:30 am. Depart Old Moses Camp at 7:00 am with a picnic lunch and begin your trek to Shipton’s Camp (4,200m), covering approximately 14 km in 6–7 hours.

The trail ascends steadily through the moorland into the dramatic Mackinder’s Valley, offering spectacular views of unique alpine vegetation such as giant lobelias and groundsels. As you gain altitude, the scenery becomes more rugged and expansive, with clear views of the main peaks ahead.

Arrive at Shipton’s Camp, set below the towering peaks of Batian and Nelion. Spend the afternoon resting and acclimatizing in preparation for the summit attempt. Dinner and overnight in tents at the camp.

Day 3

Acclimatization Day - Shiptons Campsite

Spend the day at Shipton’s Camp (4,200m) acclimatizing to the altitude in preparation for the summit attempt. After breakfast, embark on short, gentle hikes around the camp, such as the trek to Hausberg Col, which rises slightly above the camp and offers panoramic views of the surrounding peaks, valleys, and glaciers. These walks help your body adjust to the thinner air while allowing you to explore the dramatic alpine landscape, observe unique flora like giant lobelias and groundsels, and spot wildlife such as rock hyraxes and birds. Return to camp to rest, hydrate, and enjoy a hearty lunch. Spend the afternoon relaxing, reviewing the summit plan, and mentally preparing for the early morning ascent.

Day 4

Kick off at 3:00 am for a pre-dawn ascent to Point Lenana, aiming to reach the summit for the spectacular African sunrise. The climb begins on frozen scree and continues along a rocky track with minor scrambling. On a bright moonlit night, headlamps are barely needed; without the moon, the clear, pollution-free sky offers breathtaking stargazing.

The summit trek takes 3–4 hours. From the top, enjoy panoramic views of Mount Kenya’s peaks, valleys, and glaciers. On a clear day, Mount Kilimanjaro is visible on the horizon.

After celebrating the summit, descend to Mintos Camp for breakfast and a short rest. Continue along the Chogoria Route, passing the Gorges Valley with views of The Temple, Lake Michaelson, Mushroom Rocks, and the Giant Billiards Table.

Complete the trek at Chogoria Gate in the late afternoon. Transfer to your accommodation or campsite for dinner and overnight, reflecting on a memorable mountain adventure.

Day 5

After breakfast, begin the descent along a broad trail winding through bamboo thickets and pristine rainforest. Reach your transfer vehicle at the trailhead and continue to Chogoria Town, then onward to Nairobi, arriving around 12:00 pm, marking the conclusion of your Mount Kenya adventure.
