Day 1

Mlilwane Game Reserve And Mantenga Cultural Village

Mlilwane Game Reserve And Mantenga Cultural Village

You will be collected at your hotel in Mbabane and then travel to Mantenga Cultural Village. Here we visit the beautiful Mantenga waterfall and witness the traditional way of life in a Swazi village. At Mantenga we will enjoy one of the most well-executed performances of African song and dance to be found in Africa. The young Swazi maidens and warriors are well skilled in their tradition. After our visit to Mantenga we travel to Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary. Your stay here will be in the beehive-shaped thatched Swazi huts which are fully equipped with attached en suite private bathrooms but still have the wonderful atmosphere of a traditional Swazi dwelling. Meals are on the deck overlooking the dam where there are crocodiles and hippos with birds close by. Sit around the campfire after dinner with local warthogs who love the warmth of the fire on their round tummies! Optional activities such as horse riding and mountain biking are available at Mlilwane.

The World's Oldest Mountains, Greenstone Belt

This morning, a range of activities are possible such as mountain biking and horse riding. These activities are optional and are not included. There are no predatory animals in the reserve.
After breakfast we visit the Ngwenya hand-blown Glass Factory and then descend into the valley of the Magugu Dam, Swaziland's biggest and essential to its economy. Our route continues through the world's oldest mountain range, The Greenstone Belt Mountains, also know as the Makhonjwa Mountains which are over 3.6 billion years old. The Barberton Makhonjwa Geotrail takes you on a journey into the mists of an impossibly distant past – more than 3 billion years ago. This spectacular mountain pass has been developed as the Barberton Makhonjwa Geotrail. The twelve landscaped lay-bys with interpretative panels have been combined with rock specimens, geological features, and viewpoints to tell the story of how the early earth evolved some 3.6 billion years ago. Drop off at a location of your choice.
