Learn about the life of the Local Tribes Hadzabe and Datoga
Learn about the life of the Local Tribes Hadzabe and Datoga
Today, you will visit the Hadzabe and Datoga tribes. The Hadzabe, an indigenous group in Tanzania, live near the shores of Lake Eyasi and in the southern Serengeti. Although hunting and residing in the Serengeti are generally prohibited, the government makes an exception for the approximately 300–400 Hadzabe, one of Africa’s last tribes to maintain their traditional way of life. They use stone tools to hunt and gather berries, fruits, leaves, roots, and honey. Their language is unique, made up of clicking sounds. You can join in activities such as shooting with a bow and arrow or participating in a tribal dance.
After lunch at a nearby lodge, you will visit the Datoga tribe, a semi-nomadic people who traditionally rely on cattle and livestock for survival, and more recently on farming beans and corn. Explore their dwellings and experience their culture firsthand.

Visit of a Maasai Tribe and Safari in Serengeti
Your guide will take you to a Maasai village off the beaten path. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed with a traditional ceremony where young men dance and leap to demonstrate their strength. You’ll also explore the clay huts and discover the handmade jewelry crafted by the Maasai.
Next, you will continue your journey to the world-famous Serengeti National Park. Beyond its vast grasslands, this oldest national park in Tanzania offers incredible natural spectacles. It is home to millions of wildebeest, hundreds of thousands of Thomson’s gazelles, zebras, elephants, lions, cheetahs, giraffes, and many other species. Depending on the season, your guide will take you to the areas where you’re most likely to witness the migratory herds, which can stretch up to 40 kilometers long. During the annual migration, around two million wildebeests and zebras move in a cyclical pattern, following the best grazing grounds.

Migration of Wildebeests and Zebras in Serengeti
Today, you will spend another day in the Serengeti, searching for amazing wildlife. Your guide’s trained eye will help you spot animals and details you might miss on your own. The elephant, lion, cheetah, and elusive leopard will be the main focus, but you’ll also find plenty of photo opportunities with graceful impalas, playful warthogs with their tails held upright, hyenas, herds of zebra and buffalo, and majestic giraffes. Along the riverbanks, crocodiles and hippos can be seen. Rivers like the Grumeti and Mara pose significant challenges for thousands of wildebeest and zebras during the migration, creating dramatic moments as they attempt to cross. These magical scenes, with animals moving in massive columns, let you feel the earth vibrate beneath their hooves.

Follow the Predators and their Prey in Serengeti
Explore another part of Serengeti National Park, which covers approximately 14,700 km². Your guide will help you spot a variety of predators and herbivores. Beyond the wildlife, the diverse landscapes provide beautiful photo opportunities. For example, the Seronera Plateau, known as the “heart of the Serengeti,” is dotted with flat-topped acacia trees. You’ll also see termite mounds often used by cheetahs as lookout points during migration. The open savannah grasslands offer ideal hunting grounds for lions, cheetahs, and leopards. One unforgettable sight is when a herd of elephants crosses your path just ahead of your vehicle.

Explore the largest Caldera in the world, Ngorongoro Crater
A full-day safari in the world’s largest volcanic crater promises a truly unique experience. The Ngorongoro Crater, spanning up to 21 km in diameter, is home to over 360 bird species and around 25,000 large mammals. Elephants find shelter in the dense thickets along the crater walls, which rise up to 600 meters high, while zebras, antelopes, and buffalo roam freely across the crater floor’s diverse landscape. Lakes, swamps, and forests crisscross the grasslands, creating a paradise for wildlife. Ngorongoro is also the best place to see all of the Big Five—elephant, black rhino, buffalo, lion, and leopard. Spotting one of the endangered black rhinos is a special highlight. Unlike other parks, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area allows the Maasai people to live alongside the wildlife, preserving their culture and rituals in the land they have called home for centuries.
