Day 5

From Cape Town you take an early morning flight to Nelspruit - the major hub of South Africa’s wildlife-rich Lowveld - where you are met by one of our local guides who accompanies you up the Klein Drakensberg escarpment for a day’s exploration along the famous “Panorama Route”. Your tour includes stops at a number of viewpoints overlooking the Blyde River Canyon, with evocative names such as “God’s Window” and “The Pinnacle”. Time permitting, you can also descend down into the canyon’s Afromontane forest via the lift at Graskop Gorge. After this most relaxing and scenic day, you travel back down the escarpment into the Lowveld and your boutique lodge in the shadow of the mountains.

Today offers an entertaining and informative morning at Nyani Cultural Village while this afternoon you visit Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre for an educational walking tour of the centre’s work and its current inhabitants.

A visit to Nyani Cultural Village allows travellers to experience the customs, ceremonies and beliefs of the African Shangaan tribe. Far from a kitsch tourist trap, Nyani Cultural Village is a vibrant and relevant display of the history and culture of the very same people that you may only otherwise encounter as staff at your Kruger accommodation.

Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre provides a home for many of South Africa’s abandoned, injured and poisoned wildlife and is also a highly regarded contributor to the country’s wildlife conservation. Wildlife is brought to the centre from all corners of South Africa and where possible, is reintroduced back into its natural environment following treatment.

Day 7-9

Your guide now transfers you to your lodge within the Klaserie region of Greater Kruger. Have your camera handy as he will stop for any wildlife encountered en-route. This afternoon and over the next two days, you can anticipate quality wildlife viewing within this “Big Five” reserve adjoining Kruger National Park.

The 600sq km (230sq miles) Klaserie Private Nature Reserve shares unfenced borders with the Kruger and is one of the largest privately-owned reserves in South Africa. It's one of the most undeveloped and pristine wilderness areas of the Greater Kruger, animals migrate freely between Klaserie and Kruger National Park, creating an incredible biosphere and one of Africa’s premier safari destinations.

After an early morning game drive and a hearty brunch, we transfer you to the nearby Hoedspruit Airport for your flight to Johannesburg, where you are greeted by our local guide, Alan and transferred to your boutique hotel in the city’s leafy northern suburbs.

You can choose from a number of destinations to visit during your two days with Alan, including (but not restricted to) the national’s capital, Pretoria and the imposing Voortrekker Monument and Union Buildings, the Apartheid Museum and sprawling township of Soweto, and other destinations such as Constitutional Hill, Harties Cableway, Lesedi Cultural Village, and the Cradle of Humankind - one of eight World Heritage Sites in South Africa and widely recognised as the place from which all of humankind originated. Major musical and sporting events also take place here and for example, we can assist with the arrangements should you wish to visit a concert or football (soccer and rugby) match.

Towards the end of the day we say Hamba kahle (“Goodbye and go well” in isiZulu) as Alan returns you to Johannesburg-OR Tambo Airport for an evening flight departure.
