Lake Manyara provides the perfect introduction to Tanzania’s birdlife. More than 400 species have been recorded, and even a first-time visitor to Africa might reasonably expect to observe 100 of these in one day. Inland from the floodplain, a narrow belt of acacia woodland is the favored habitat of Manyara’s legendary tree-climbing lions and impressively tusked elephants.

Here a million wildebeest, each driven by the same ancient rhythm, fulfill their instinctive role in the inescapable cycle of life: a frenzied three-week period of territorial conquest and mating; survival of the fittest as 40 km (25 miles) long columns plunge through crocodile-infested waters during the annual Great Migration north; and replenishment of the species in a brief population explosion that produces more than 8,000 calves daily before the 1,000 km (600 mile) pilgrimage begins again.

Serengeti National Park
Today you will enjoy a romantic breakfast at the lodge before departing for a full-day game drive in Central Serengeti National Park. A delicious hot meal will be prepared by your guide, followed by an afternoon game drive and an evening sundowner with romantic champagne. Later, return to the lodge for dinner and your overnight stay.
The Serengeti is probably the most famous wildlife sanctuary in the world. Within its 15,000 sq km area, it hosts three million large mammals. More than 35 species of plains animals—including zebra, wildebeest, eland, giraffe, and others—are found here, as well as the Big Five: elephant, lion, buffalo, leopard, and rhino.
The park is also the staging zone for one of the most spectacular events in the natural world—the annual Great Wildebeest Migration. This begins around June, when over one million wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles head for the Masai Mara in search of pasture.

Afterward, you will transfer to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area with a game drive en route. Dinner and your overnight stay will at an authentic luxury tented camp overlooking the Ngorongoro Crater.
Serengeti National Park is well known for its healthy population of resident wildlife, particularly the Big Five, named for the five most prized trophies once taken by hunters. The Serengeti is believed to hold the largest population of lions in Africa due in part to the abundance of prey species, with more than 3,000 lions living in this ecosystem. African leopards, known for being reclusive predators, are commonly seen in the Seronera region but are found throughout the national park, with the population estimated at around 1,000. African elephants are also among the park’s iconic wildlife species.

In the afternoon, you will drive back to Arusha for your airport drop-off as you prepare to head to your final destination.
The jewel in Ngorongoro’s crown is its deep volcanic crater, the largest unflooded and unbroken caldera in the world. About 20 km across, 600 meters deep, and covering 300 sq km, the Ngorongoro Crater is a breathtaking natural wonder.
You will also visit Lake Magadi, a large but shallow alkaline lake in the southwestern corner of the crater and one of its main features. Large numbers of flamingos, hippos, and other water birds can usually be seen here.
