Tarangire National Park is located slightly off the main safari route. It is a lovely, quiet park in Northern Tanzania that is most famous for its elephant migration, birding, and quiet authentic safari atmosphere. After breakfast at the camp, you will have a morning walking safari in the park, escorted by an armed ranger. It is a great experience! In the afternoon, go on a game drive until the afternoon when your driver will set and prepare a table for a full, hot lunch (soup, bread rolls, main dish, and fruit salad) followed by a glass of wine, tea, or coffee. After lunch, continue with the game drive until the evening when you drive to the camp for dinner. Afterward, go on a night game drive safari and then return to the camp for your overnight stay.

Here, herds of up to 300 elephants scratch the dry riverbed for underground streams. It’s the greatest concentration of wildlife outside the Serengeti ecosystem - a smorgasbord for predators. It is the one place in Tanzania where dry-country antelope such as the stately fringe-eared oryx and peculiar long-necked gerenuk are regularly observed.

"The only living things which look as if they really belonged to it are the wild animals. Between the animals and Africa, there is an understanding that the human beings have not yet earned" - Laurens van der Post, Venture to the Interior, 1963.

Today, the Serengeti National Park, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, and the Masai Mara National Reserve across the border in Kenya, protect the greatest and most varied collection of terrestrial wildlife on earth. It is one of the last great migratory systems still intact.

Main Destination:
Central Serengeti National Park
Best Time To Visit January to February and June to October (Different areas are best at different times)
High Season July to March (The Seronera area is crowded)

Serengeti National Park - Central Seronera

After breakfast, go on a full-day game drive in Central Serengeti (Seronera area). It is the best place to spot the big cats. In the afternoon, your driver will set and prepare a table for a full, hot lunch (soup, bread rolls, main dish, and fruit salad) followed by a glass of wine, tea, or coffee. Here, you will meet guests from other companies who mostly receive a cold sandwich lunch while our services are 5-star on safari. After lunch, go on an afternoon game drive to view the great migration. In the evening, check in at the camp for dinner and overnight.

Serengeti National Park is well known for its healthy stock of resident wildlife, particularly the Big Five named for the 5 most prized trophies taken by hunters. The Serengeti is believed to hold the largest population of lions in Africa due in part to the abundance of prey species. More than 3,000 lions live in this ecosystem.

Day 8

Serengeti National Park - North Kogatende

Serengeti National Park - North Kogatende

In the early morning, go on a hot-air balloon safari. After landing, you will have a glass of champagne to celebrate with a delicious breakfast. This is followed by a game drive en route to the Northern Serengeti (Kogatende area) searching for big cats and the Big Five. In the afternoon, your driver will set and prepare a table for a full, hot lunch (soup, bread rolls, main dish, and fruit salad) followed by a glass of wine, tea, or coffee. Continue with the game drive until the evening when your driver will set a sundowner picnic table with drinks and snacks before you drive back to the camp for dinner and overnight.

The migration is when a million wildebeest, each one driven by the same ancient rhythm, fulfills its instinctive role in the inescapable cycle of life. It is a frenzied 3-week bout of territorial conquests and mating and survival of the fittest as 40km (25 miles) long columns plunge through crocodile-infested waters on their annual exodus north.

Northern Serengeti National Park
Accommodation:
Sayari Camp

Serengeti National Park - North Kogatende

Have breakfast at the camp and depart for a full-day search for the migration at crossing points in Northern Serengeti. In the evening, return to the camp for dinner and overnight.

The key feature is the Mara River and it is not uncommon to see the herds cross the Mara River north on one day and then back south a few days later. Please note that actually finding a crossing is very difficult and is sometimes a matter of luck. A herd can be seen next to the river and only decide to cross (or not) until a couple of days later.
