Kalahari Game Reserve
Kalahari Game Reserve
The Kalahari is a vast, semi-arid sandy savannah basin in Southern Africa covering roughly 900,000 square kilometers (350,000 square miles). It spans almost all of Botswana, as well as parts of Namibia and South Africa.
The best time to visit the Kalahari depends entirely on what you want to experience, as its safari seasons operate the exact opposite way of standard African destinations like the Okavango Delta
The Green Season (December–April): Peak Wildlife & Birding
Counterintuitively for a safari destination, the rainy summer months are widely considered the absolute best time for wildlife viewing in the Central Kalahari.
• The Spectacle: Life-giving rains transform the arid valleys (like Deception Valley) into lush green pastures. This draws massive herds of springbok, gemsbok, wildebeest, and eland to feed and give birth, closely trailed by the region's famous black-maned lions and cheetahs.

The Selinda Spillway: A unique waterway that can dynamically link the Linyanti system with the Okavango Delta depending on annual flood levels.
• Private Concessions: Unlike public national parks, much of Linyanti is divided into exclusive private wildlife reserves (such as the Linyanti Reserve, Selinda Reserve, and Kwando Reserve) managed by low-impact luxury safari

The water does not come from local rain, but from summer rainfall in the highlands of northern Angola. The water travels over 1000 kl down the Okavango River. The floods peak between June and August, right during Botswana's bone dry winter. when the rest of the surrounding Kalahari is parched,
The Delta swells to nearly double its dry season size expanding up to 22,000 square kilometers creating a vital life raft for regional wildlife. The Big Five: Lions, leopards, African bush elephants, Cape buffaloes and reintroduced rhinos.
