Day 1

The beautiful Tarangire National

The beautiful Tarangire National

Tarangire National Park is approximately a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Arusha. On the way there, you will get a sense of the vastness of the Tanzanian landscape.

You will pass through several small villages where local people sell their goods at small markets and along the roadside. If you wish, the journey can be interrupted for a short stop at a roadside stall or to visit a local market.

In the afternoon, you will enter Tarangire National Park for a game drive. The park is known for its diverse wildlife and large elephant population.

During the dry season, the Tarangire River attracts wildlife in search of water. You may see wildebeest, zebras, lions, elephants, impalas, buffaloes, giraffes, and gazelles. The park is also home to a variety of bird species. In the evening, drive to Karatu for overnight.

Making your way to Ngorongoro crater

After breakfast, drive to the Ngorongoro Crater. The Ngorongoro Caldera, with a diameter of up to 21 km, is home to more than 360 bird species and approximately 25,000 large mammals. It also has the highest predator density in Africa. This is one of the best places to spot all members of the Big Five—elephants, black rhinos, buffalos, lions, and leopards. Unlike other national parks, the Maasai people are permitted to live alongside the wildlife here, maintaining their traditional culture and rituals as they have for centuries. In the late afternoon, you will head to the camp for dinner and an overnight stay.

Enjoying a migration of wildebeest and zebra

After breakfast, you will depart for the Ndutu Region, located in the northern part of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and extending into the unfenced southern reaches of Serengeti National Park.

The Ndutu area is characterized by open grasslands, alkaline lakes, and acacia woodlands. During the migration season, the lakes may attract flamingos and other bird species.

If you are traveling during January and February, Ndutu is well known for the calving season of the Great Migration, when large numbers of wildebeest give birth to their young. The newborns also attract predators such as lions, cheetahs, leopards, and hyenas, making this an interesting area for wildlife viewing.

Game enroute while driving to Arusha for departure

Today, you will drive from Southern Serengeti (Ndutu area) back to Arusha.
Once again, you can enjoy the impressive expanse of the landscape and animals along the safari or the hustle and bustle on the roadside in the small villages.

After an eventful and relaxing holiday in Tanzania, it is now time to say goodbye, unfortunately.

You will be driven to the airport, where you will start your journey home.
