3-Day Danakil Depression and Volcano Tour

Addis Ababa - Semera – Dallol

Take the morning flight from Addis Ababa to Semera town where the Danakil Depression tour is organized. On arrival at Semera Airport, meet your guide who will brief you about general Ethiopian geology and about the whole program. You then drive to Allalobad (the water of Allah), a geothermal site, and spend some time here before driving to Erta’ale. After a relaxed, light dinner, we will have a walk of about 30 minutes to the summit crater of Erta Ale. We visit the Erta Ale volcano lake and overnight on the top of the caldera in open-air camping accommodation.

Drive to Hamedela

After breakfast prepared by our cook, we drive to Hamedela, a small town of salt miners. Here we visit the salt lakes of Assale, Lake Karum, and the salt formation lake. Enjoy the wonderful sunset and overnight in Hamedela in open-air camping accommodation.

Visit Dallol - Drive to Semera

We visit Dallol, the colorful geothermal pools of sulfur, and the salt-mountain cave early in the morning before the heat gets too strong. The Danakil Depression is one of the lowest places on earth at 125m below sea level.

We drive to Semera with a small lunch break in Afdera. On arrival at Semera town, connect with your late-afternoon flight back to Addis Ababa.
