Day 1

Tarangire National Park

Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, you will be collected from your lodge and drive to Tarangire National Park with lunch boxes. The drive to Tarangire National Park is about 110km and takes about 2 hours from Arusha.

Tarangire National Park is a huge park best known for its large herds of elephants. It is also great for lion and leopard sightings, it has wonderful birdlife and a great variety of landscapes and wildlife. The gorgeous Silale Swamp toward the south of the park is magnificent and almost always rich in wildlife taking advantage of this reliable water source. The park provides water not only from the swamp, but also from the Tarangire River. During the dry season, it’s the primary source of water for animals from the entire area, making for fantastic viewing.

After a full day in the park, we will drive to Maramboi Tented Lodge for dinner and overnight.

It is a self-contained ecosystem with its own, unique population of wildlife in a confined area of amazing variety. The crater boasts many lions, hyenas, fantastic birdlife, servals, Cape buffalos, zebras, and gorgeous landscapes. There is also an added advantage of seeing rhinos if you are lucky.

Lake Manyara

Lake Manyara

This is another lovely park, lying roughly between Tarangire and the Ngorongoro Crater. It boasts a small, beautiful groundwater forest where you can spot blue monkeys, lots of giraffes, elephants, lions, leopards and a beautiful lake dusted pink with flamingos in the distance. Stretching for 50km along the base of the rusty-gold 600m-high Rift Valley escarpment, Lake Manyara is a scenic gem. It has a setting extolled by Ernest Hemingway as “the loveliest I had seen in Africa”.

After the game drive, you will join your guide for a 2.5-hour canoe safari on Lake Manyara from the Endala picnic site. You can get very close to giraffes, elephants, buffalos and other animals grazing on the shoreline. Please note that the canoeing tour is optional and not included in the price.

In the late afternoon, you will drive back to Arusha where you can either be dropped off at the hotel or at the airport.
