We depart for Great Zimbabwe, the most significant medieval city in Sub-Saharan Africa. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the ruins were built and expanded between the 11th and 14th centuries and remain one of the continent’s most impressive ancient landmarks. Spanning nearly 1,800 acres (7 km²), the site features extraordinary dry-stone architecture with interlocking walls, staircases, and granite boulders—crafted entirely without mortar.
Visitors can explore the small on-site museum, which houses artifacts, examples of building techniques, and historical displays that trace the story of this once-thriving city.
