Day 1

Arrive at Inyati Game Lodge in Sabi Sand

Arrive at Inyati Game Lodge in Sabi Sand

You will be met at Kruger Mpumalanga or Skukuza Airport and transferred in a private vehicle to the Sabi Sand Game Reserve for your three-night stay at Inyati Game Lodge.

Set on the Sand River in the western Sabi Sand, Inyati is an established owner-managed lodge with a loyal following. Most rooms face the gardens and the river, and with no fence along the riverbank, wildlife moves freely past the lodge throughout the day and night.

A newly renovated Inyati now has a large open flow deck and dining area, overlooking the lawns and the river beyond. Each room has been elevated with a new bathroom and furnishings. The garden boasts a new pool and the river and passing wildlife is never far from the eye. It is the kind of place that feels immediately personal - service is attentive without being formal, and the focus is firmly on the safari experience.

Day 2-3

Game drives in Sabi Sand

Game drives in Sabi Sand

Wildlife sightings are part of daily life here - it’s not uncommon to see elephants, hippos, buffalo and antelope right in the riverbed below. Head out before sunrise in an open vehicle with your dedicated ranger and Shangaan tracker as the bush comes to life around you.

The Sabi Sand is widely regarded as one of South Africa's finest private game reserves, with an unfenced boundary with Kruger National Park giving wildlife complete freedom of movement across the landscape. Leopard sightings here are among the most consistent on the continent, and elephant, lion, buffalo and rhino are all regularly encountered.

Each drive runs approximately three hours, with coffee and rusks in the field on the morning drive, and sundowners at a chosen spot in the reserve before spotlighting for nocturnal animals on the way back to camp.

The midday hours between drives are best spent on the deck above the river, where wildlife moves past without warning.

Day 4

Transfer to Summerfields Rose Retreat & Spa, Hazyview

Transfer to Summerfields Rose Retreat & Spa, Hazyview

After an early morning game drive and breakfast, your private transfer will take you from the Sabi Sand to Summerfields Rose Retreat & Spa near Hazyview, set on a 100-hectare working farm on the banks of the Sabie River - a complete change of pace and scenery after three days in the bush.

Summerfields offers 13 luxury tented suites and two timber Forest Suites, each with a private deck, en-suite bathroom with outdoor shower, air conditioning, minibar and luxury linen. Suites look out over the river or surrounding forest, and the sounds of the Sabie River and resident hippos replace the silence of the bush with something equally memorable.

Arrive in time for lunch at the River Café, open daily and set alongside the river, before a leisurely afternoon at your own pace. The Rose Spa - set on the riverbank surrounded by bush-clad mountains - offers massages, aromatherapy and rose-based treatments, and a visit is warmly recommended before dinner at the Summerfields Kitchen.

Day 5

Private Panorama Route Tour

Private Panorama Route Tour

Your full day is spent on a private guided tour of the Panorama Route, one of South Africa's most spectacular scenic drives. Summerfields sits at its doorstep, making it one of the best possible bases from which to explore.

The route follows the Drakensberg Escarpment as it drops dramatically from the Highveld into the Lowveld, and the contrast with the bushveld landscape could not be more striking - lush, green, cool and utterly different.

Highlights include God's Window, where the escarpment cliffs plunge more than 700 metres into an indigenous forest ravine with views stretching across the Lowveld on a clear day; Bourke's Luck Potholes, where the Blyde and Treur rivers meet and have carved extraordinary cylindrical formations into the bedrock over thousands of years; the Three Rondavels viewpoint above the Blyde River Canyon, one of the largest green canyons in the world; and the spectacular Lisbon and Berlin waterfalls.
Lunch is not included but can be purchased at Graskop.
