Arusha - Tarangire
This morning, we’ll drive west from Arusha for about two hours to reach the first stop on the northern safari circuit and our Tanzania Budget Camping Safari: Tarangire National Park. This is a flourishing wilderness where herds of elephants silently navigate a maze of towering baobab trees, lions stalk in the high grass, and vervet monkeys and baboons watch our every move from the treetops. While the park is best known for its elephants, there’s a tremendous variety of wildlife to be spotted here, and we’ll spend plenty of time in the park to see as much as we can. We’ll pitch our tents near the gardens at Migombani Camp today; don’t miss the baobab tree swing or the magnificent view, which stretches all the way to Lake Manyara.

Tarangire - Serengeti
Leaving the baobab woodlands of Tarangire behind, we’ll travel for approximately four hours through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area today in order to reach Serengeti National Park. This is arguably the most remarkable wildlife reserve in the world, and it makes a fine centerpiece for your Tanzania Budget Camping Safari. The Serengeti is characterized by endless plains teeming with lions and cheetahs, iconic umbrella thorn acacia trees where leopards wait out the midday heat, and winding rivers where noisy hippos congregate in unbelievable numbers. There are many public campsites available in the Serengeti; we’ll arrange a booking at the best available option, ensuring that we can pitch our tents in a scenic and wild locale. You can expect an unfenced camp right in the bush, with only the canvas of your tent standing between you and the mysteries of the African night.

Serengeti
How would you like to spend your next full day in the Serengeti? We can embark upon thrilling morning and afternoon game drives today, exploring the central Seronera region of the park and its outlying riverine forests and expansive plains. Lions and cheetahs are common here, in addition to massive herds of plains game like zebra and Thomson’s gazelles. This schedule gives us the opportunity to return to camp at mealtimes to savor some real bush cooking from our safari chef. Alternatively, we can forge even deeper into the wilderness today, bringing along a packed lunch and ranging further afield to discover the distant reaches of the park. However you choose to spend your time, you’re sure to return to your tent satisfied after another epic day of sightseeing on your Tanzania Budget Camping Safari.

This morning, we’ll pack up our tents and retrace our steps through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, arriving at Ngorongoro Crater itself and descending to the floor of this extinct volcanic caldera. This ancient geological wonder hosts a thriving population of plains game, predators, and massive herbivores. This may be the only opportunity on your Tanzania Budget Camping Safari to spot the elusive and endangered black rhinoceros, so make sure to keep your eyes peeled for signs of this fascinating animal. After exploring the length and breadth of the crater, we’ll take the winding road back to the top and continue onwards to return to Migombani Camp.
