Arrive at Kambaku Safari Lodge, Timbavati

On arrival at Hoedspruit Airport, a private transfer will be waiting to take you to the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve for your three-night stay at Kambaku Safari Lodge.

Kambaku is an owner-managed lodge with a genuinely personal character that sets it apart from larger properties. Accommodation is in classic chalets overlooking the beautifully maintained gardens, with en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning, and all the comforts expected of a quality safari lodge.

The main lodge area is the heart of camp life, housing the dining room, bar and lounge, with a swimming pool to cool off during the midday heat.

A waterhole sits to one side of the lodge, drawing game throughout the day. Meals are enjoyed in the dining area or outside under the African sky, with bush dinners around the fire a highlight of any stay. The atmosphere throughout is relaxed, knowledgeable and unhurried - this is a lodge built around the safari experience.

Game Drives in the Timbavati

Your day begins before sunrise with an early morning game drive into the Timbavati. Head out in open vehicles with your experienced ranger and Shangaan tracker, whose knowledge of this reserve and its inhabitants is exceptional. The Timbavati's open boundary with Kruger means wildlife moves freely across an enormous area, and Big Five sightings are a regular feature of drives here.

Lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard are all well represented, and the reserve's lower visitor numbers mean sightings are often unhurried and intimate.

Each drive lasts approximately three hours, with a refreshment stop in the bush - coffee and rusks on the morning drive, sundowners with views across the reserve in the evening. After sundowners your tracker will spotlight for nocturnal animals before returning to camp for dinner. Return from the morning drive for breakfast and a midday rest before heading out again as the afternoon light softens.

Depart Timbavati

After an early morning game drive and breakfast, your private transfer will take you to Hoedspruit Airport for your onward travel.

This safari pairs well with a stay at a lodge in the Sabi Sand or Thornybush, a drive through the Panorama Route, or a few nights in Cape Town. Victoria Falls is easily added and makes for a natural and memorable extension.
