Day 1

, Day’s itinerary:
At 8:15am you will be picked up from your overnight hotel after breakfast to drive to Mabamba Bay wetland home to the shoe bill stork, Papyrus Yellow Warbler and several other birds. Mabamba Bay is the best place to see the elusive shoe bill stork any time of day with a high rating of best in Africa or perhaps the whole world. This site has also remarkably become a habitant for the migrant Blue Swallow with over 100 individuals recorded every year. The survey carried out in recent years has revealed boosts in numbers to over 260 species with one day’s record of 157 species.

The search involves traversing the swamp in dug-out canoes for good sightings. The boat search lasts about 1 to 2 hours depending on where the shoe bill has moved off to. After this activity we will return to town to be dropped off at your hotel to refresh and unwind.
