Today after breakfast, you will be picked up from your lodge and drive to Tarangire National Park with lunch boxes. The drive to Tarangire National Park is about 110 km and takes about 2 hours from Arusha. Tarangire National Park is a huge park best known for its large herds of elephants, but it’s also great for lions and leopards, wonderful for bird life, great variety of landscapes and wildlife. The gorgeous Silale Swamp, towards the south of the park, is magnificent and almost always rich in wildlife taking advantage of this reliable water source. The park provides water not only from the swamp but also the Tarangire River and during the dry season it’s the primary source of water for animals from the entire area, making for fantastic viewing.

After a full day in the park, you'll drive to Kitela Tented Lodge for an overnight stay and dinner.

Ngorongoro Crater to Serengeti National Park

Ngorongoro Crater to Serengeti National Park

Today, you will drive to the stunning Ngorongoro Crater. This crater is the world’s largest intact collapsed caldera (volcano) which is a self-contained ecosystem with its unique population of wildlife in a confined area of amazing variety.
The crater boasts lots of lions, hyenas, fantastic birdlife, servals, Cape buffalos, zebras, and gorgeous landscapes. Also, there is an added advantage of seeing rhinos if you are lucky. The view from the veranda of the lodges is breathtaking especially in the morning with the early morning mist, because of the high altitude (it can be visited at any time of the year).

You will have your lunch in the crater and then you will drive to Serengeti National Park. The central Serengeti boasts those spectacular “endless plains,” dotted with acacia trees and the occasional rocky kopjes. What is special about Central Serengeti is the wide open spaces, driving through the miles and miles of animals as far as the eye can see, riverine forest and leopards.

You will then drive back to the lodge for a leisurely breakfast followed by a pure relaxation break. You will have your lunch in the park and thereafter drive to Karatu while enjoying a game drive en route. You will arrive at your lodge in time for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 5

Lake Manyara National Park to Arusha

Lake Manyara National Park to Arusha

This is another lovely park, lying roughly between Tarangire and the Ngorongoro Crater. It boasts a beautiful little groundwater forest where you can spot blue monkeys lots of giraffes, elephants, lions, leopards, and a very pretty lake dusted pink in the distance with flamingos.

Stretching for 50km along the base of the rusty-gold 600-meter high Rift Valley escarpment, Lake Manyara is a scenic gem, with a setting extolled by Ernest Hemingway as “the loveliest I had seen in Africa”. From the entrance gate, the road winds through an expanse of lush jungle-like groundwater forest where hundred-strong baboon troops lounge nonchalantly along the roadside. Blue monkeys scamper nimbly between the ancient mahogany trees, dainty bushbuck tread through the shadows, and outsized forest hornbills honk cacophonously in the high canopy.

You will enjoy your lunch box in the park and continue with the game drive. In the late afternoon, you will drive back to Arusha.
