Tarangire National Park - Elephants Paradise

Depart Arusha after an early breakfast and drive southwest through the Tanzanian countryside toward Tarangire National Park your first taste of the northern circuit and one of Tanzania's most rewarding wildlife destinations.

Enter the park in time for a full afternoon game drive through a landscape that stops most visitors in their tracks. Ancient baobab trees tower over the open savannah, the Tarangire River cuts through the park drawing wildlife from across the region, and elephant herds move through in numbers rarely seen anywhere else in Tanzania. Lion prides rest under the shade of acacias, giraffe pick their way between the trees, and the birdlife over 550 recorded species fills the air with colour and sound.

The journey from the open plains into the highlands is a landscape shift that never gets old as you ascend through dense montane forest, the temperature drops, the vegetation thickens, and the world becomes quieter and cooler.

Ngorongoro Crater - Home of Big Five

An early descent into the Ngorongoro Crater marks one of the great highlights of any Tanzania safari. Drop 600 metres onto the crater floor a UNESCO World Heritage Site and ancient volcanic caldera sheltering over 25,000 animals within its 260 square kilometres.

Lions roam the open grasslands in well-established prides, hippos wallow in the muddy pools, spotted hyenas move in large clans, and the alkaline shores of Lake Magadi shimmer with thousands of flamingos. The critically endangered Black Rhino makes its home here too a rare and privileged sighting that very few safari destinations can offer.

Spend the full morning working the crater floor with your guide before pulling over for a picnic lunch under the open sky — one of those simple moments that somehow becomes one of the best meals of the trip. After lunch, ascend from the crater and begin the drive back to Arusha, arriving in the late afternoon. Overnight in Arusha.
