7-Day Hike to Waterfall and Trek Kilimanjaro Machame

Kilimanjaro Airport to Machame village, hike to waterfall, coffee tours, etc

This is the first day to experience the magnificent Kilimanjaro, whereby we pick you up from Kilimanjaro Airport or another location in Moshi. Our car will bring you to Nkweshoo Machame village, near Mount Kilimanjaro. Depending on time, you will proceed with hiking to the Nkosalulu waterfalls, and Kilimanjaro forest. Our guides will take you to the first missionary church, built by German colonials. Nevertheless, will do a coffee tour, coffee tasting, and learn the preparation of local food. After all these things to do, you may choose to sleep at Salinero Millie Lodge, near Machame Gate, or sleep at our homestays.

Drive to Machame Gate at 1634 m, hike to Machame camp 2834 m

Get breakfast at Millie Lodge, and after breakfast get a guides briefing and drive to Machame gate after registration begins your climb. The first day is a nice leisurely hike through the tropical rainforest. As you pass through the rainforest, you are most likely to spot Colobus monkeys and wild birds. Have dinner and overnight at Machame Camp.

From Machame camp at 2834 m trek to Shira camp 3749 m

Our Mountain chef and waiter bring you breakfast, and make sure you are well-fed. Then our guide, From the Machame camp, crosses the stream onto its west bank and follows the path up the steep rocky ridge - crisscrossing a few times before reaching Shira camp, at the base of a semi-circular wall of rocks. Have dinner and overnight at Shira camp.

Shira camp at 3749 m to Barranco camp 3901 m

As usual, our attention to each climber goes on, taking care of each person's health. Get a well-prepared breakfast, and the guide ask you how you feel. Then continue with the ascent journey from Shira Hut, you hike to Lava Tower (15,000’) to acclimatize and then proceed down to Barranco Camp via the Great Barranco Wall. This night’s camp is one of the best on the mountain. Have dinner and overnight at Barranco camp.

Barranco camp at 3900 m hike to Barafu camp 4600 m

Today is a long and tough hike than the past few days, hiking up to the final camp before your last ascent day to the summit.
From Barranco Hut, you climb up through the edge of the great Barranco Wall. It's a tough morning climb on a steep trail, but once you reach the top, the views are wonderful. Today is the best day to get lots of rest. Have dinner and overnight at Barafu camp.

Barafu Camp at 4600m to the Summit 5896 m and then to Mweka Camp

You will start trekking early before sunrise (1-2 am), as the walk today will take 10 - 14 + hours. The 1,100-meter (3,600’) ascent in just over 3 km (1.86 miles) will take you about 6-8 hours. As you try to reach the summit t watch the sunrise over the Great Rift Valley. After watching the sunrise and taking pictures, descend down back to Barafu camp for lunch then proceed to Mweka camp. Have dinner and overnight at Mweka camp.

Mweka camp at 3100 m to Mweka Gate 1828 m

It is a day, you have accomplished the Kilimanjaro challenge and made a lifetime adventure. After breakfast, you will have a short three-hour hike out, walking through the lush forest. You meet our driver with the vehicle at the Mweka park gate to drive back to Moshi. From Moshi, we drop you at your hotel or to Kilimanjaro Airport.
