7-Day Trek Kilimanjaro Machame with Waterfall Hikes

Kilimanjaro Airport to Machame Village, Hike to Waterfall, Coffee Tours

This is the first day to experience the magnificent Kilimanjaro, where we pick you up from Kilimanjaro Airport or another location in Moshi. Our car will bring you to Nkweshoo Machame village, near Mount Kilimanjaro. Depending on the time, you will proceed with hiking to the Nkosalulu waterfalls and Kilimanjaro forest. Our guides will take you to the first missionary church, built by German colonials. Nevertheless, will do a coffee tour, coffee tasting, and learn the preparation of local food. After all these things to do, you may choose to sleep at Salinero Millie Lodge, near Machame Gate, or sleep at our homestays.

Drive to Machame Gate at 1634 m, Hike to Machame Camp 2834 m

You'll get breakfast at Millie Lodge. After breakfast, you get a guide's briefing and drive to Machame Gate. After registration, you will begin your climb. The first day is a nice leisurely hike through the tropical rainforest. As you pass through the rainforest, you are most likely to spot Colobus monkeys and wild birds. You will have dinner and an overnight stay at Machame Camp.

From Machame Camp at 2834 m Trek to Shira Camp 3749 m

Our Mountain chef and waiter bring you breakfast and make sure you are well-fed. Then, with our guide from the Machame camp, you cross the stream onto its west bank and follow the path up the steep, rocky ridge— crisscrossing a few times before reaching Shira camp, at the base of a semi-circular wall of rocks. You will have dinner and an overnight stay at Shira camp.

Shira Camp at 3749 m to Barranco Camp 3901 m

As usual, our attention to each climber continues, taking care of each person's health. You get a well-prepared breakfast, and the guide asks you how you feel. Then, you continue with the ascent from Shira Hut; you hike to Lava Tower (15,000’) to acclimatize and then proceed down to Barranco Camp via the Great Barranco Wall. This night’s camp is one of the best on the mountain. You will have dinner and an overnight stay at Barranco Camp.

Barranco Camp at 3900 m Hike to Barafu Camp 4600 m

Today is a longer and tougher hike than the past few days, hiking up to the final camp before your last ascent day to the summit.
From Barranco Hut, you climb up along the edge of the great Barranco Wall. It's a tough morning climb on a steep trail, but once you reach the top, the views are wonderful. Today is the best day to get lots of rest. You will have dinner and stay overnight at Barafu Camp.

Barafu Camp at 4600m to the Summit 5896 m and then to Mweka Camp

You will start trekking early, before sunrise (1- 2 a.m.), as the walk today will take 10 - 14 + hours. The 1,100-meter (3,600’) ascent in just over 3 km (1.86 miles) will take you about 6-8 hours. As you try to reach the summit, you watch the sunrise over the Great Rift Valley. After watching the sunrise and taking pictures, you descend back down to Barafu Camp for lunch, then proceed to Mweka Camp. You will have dinner and an overnight stay at Mweka camp.

Mweka Camp at 3100 m to Mweka Gate 1828 m

It is a day when you have accomplished the Kilimanjaro challenge and made a lifetime adventure. After breakfast, you will have a short three-hour hike out, walking through the lush forest. You will meet our driver with the vehicle at the Mweka Park gate and then descend shortly to the Mweka cultural curio lounge for lunch. After lunch, you drive back to Moshi. From Moshi, we drop you off at your hotel.
