Transfer from King Shaka International Airport, Durban to Phinda Private Game Reserve, Vlei Lodge
Showcasing one of the continent’s finest game-viewing experiences, Phinda is home to Africa’s Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino), as well as 436 bird species. The reserve is particularly well known for close-up sightings of the elegant yet elusive cheetah, as well as the rare black rhino. With its 7 distinct habitats, Phinda is often described as "Seven Worlds of Wonder", a magnificent tapestry of woodland, grassland, wetland and forest, interspersed with mountain ranges, rivers, marshes and pans. Home to 1,000 hectares (2,471 acres) of Africa’s remaining rare, dry-sand forest, the reserve is situated in close proximity to the unspoiled beaches and spectacular coral reefs of the Indian Ocean, offering an unmatched combination of bush and beach adventures. Guests at Phinda experience interpretive game drives in open 4×4 safari vehicles, led by professionally trained rangers and Zulu trackers, as well as a wide range of optional adventures in the bush and beach.

Transfer from Phinda Private Game Reserve to Thonga Beach Lodge on the Elephant Coast Route
Depart from Phinda by road and transfer to the tropical Thonga Beach Lodge on the Elephant Coast. Relax with the ocean on your doorstep. With no development 100 miles up or 60 miles down the beach, this is an unrivalled beach and marine wilderness sanctuary. 12 Luxurious thatched suites (some with private pools) nestle in the dune forest, overlooking Mabibi Beach. Wake slowly to the sound of waves, deciding if rock pool snorkelling or an open ocean experience, or simply lying on the beach deck, is the best plan for the day. Enjoy sundowners with hippos grunting at Lake Sibaya in the afternoon. Snorkel off one of the colourful reefs, kayak or fish, and explore the surrounding areas on a Tsonga Culture tour or a guided forest walk. Brace yourself for a sea turtle experience as these massive reptiles launch out of the sea and journey up the beach metres away from you. At dusk, follow the mother turtles as they return to the same beach where they were born to restart the cycle again.
