Pick up from your hotel in Moshi in the morning and drive to Machame Gate to begin the trek. The trail winds gently through lush montane forest, passing giant trees and diverse tropical plants, before reaching Machame Camp at 2,835 m for rest, dinner, and overnight, covering 11 km with 5–7 hours of hiking.

Day 2
Machame Camp to Shira Cave Camp
Machame Camp to Shira Cave Camp
Climb steadily through moorland, surrounded by towering heather and striking protea plants. The trail winds gradually upward, revealing sweeping views of the mountain slopes, before reaching Shira Camp at 3,750 m for rest, dinner, and overnight, covering approximately 5 km with 4–5 hours of hiking.

Shira Camp to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower
Shira Camp to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower
Leaving Shira Camp, the trail climbs steadily through alpine desert toward Lava Tower for acclimatization. Lava Tower is reached at 4,630 m before descending to Barranco Camp at 3,950 m for rest, dinner, and overnight, covering approximately 10 km with 6–8 hours of hiking.

Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Leaving Barranco Camp, the trail begins with a climb up the Barranco Wall before continuing across alpine desert landscapes and through the scenic Karanga Valley. Following the climb-high, sleep-low principle for acclimatization, the trail gradually leads to Karanga Camp at 3,995 m for rest, dinner, and overnight, covering approximately 5 km with 4–5 hours of hiking.

Day 5
Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Continue ascending through the stark alpine desert landscape along a steady ridge toward Barafu Camp. As you gain altitude, the vegetation becomes sparse and the terrain more rugged, offering expansive views of the surrounding slopes of the mountain. The trail gradually leads to Barafu Camp at 4,640 m, where you will rest, have dinner, and prepare for the summit climb later that night, covering approximately 4 km with 3–4 hours of hiking.
Day 6
Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
Leaving Barafu Camp at midnight for the summit climb, covering approximately 18 km with 8–10 hours of hiking, you reach Uhuru Peak at 5,895 m, where the sunrise and spectacular views await. After the summit, you descend past Barafu Camp and continue through alpine desert and forest to Mweka Camp at 3,100 m for rest, dinner, and overnight.

Day 7
Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate to Moshi
Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate to Moshi
The descent from Mweka Camp winds through the forest to Mweka Gate, where you receive your summit certificates and complete the trek, covering approximately 10 km with 3–4 hours of hiking, after which you will be driven back to your hotel in Moshi.
