As you walk through the site, you are encouraged to observe the architectural features, sketch or photograph a structure of interest, and reflect on what the materials and layouts reveal about life in the settlement. The activity also includes guided discussions on how the ruins reflect the spread of Islam in East Africa, the prosperity of Swahili trade across the Indian Ocean, and the social and political dynamics that shaped the community between the 9th and 19th centuries.
