Exploring Amboseli National Park

This being a full day in Amboseli, you can have a full-day game drive, or morning and afternoon game drives. Amboseli is the home to great herds of elephants and a backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro. It is a favorite spot for photographers. Also to be found in the Amboseli are herds of wildebeests, buffaloes, gazelles and many other wildlife. Amboseli National Park stands out mainly for its elephant terrain and, of course, for the presence of Kilimanjaro in the background. Although many more animals will be seen, as in all parks, what is most striking is the high presence of elephants. All the African Big 5 (lion, elephant, rhino, leopard and buffalo) are easily seen among other wild animals such as cheetah, giraffe, zebra, hyrax, dik-dik, lesser dudu, hippo, wildebeest, mongoose, nocturnal porcupine and many more. The prolific birdlife in this park features 600 species.

Day 5-6

Explore the Great Mara

Explore the Great Mara

You will be taken on two game drives today, one in the morning before breakfast and the other in the late afternoon. Early mornings and late afternoons are considered the best times to spot animals as they are most active. This is the time that the big cats are most active and can provide some of the most dramatic photography, thanks to the beautiful lighting. You will visit the Mara River, the site of the great migration. Here, millions of wildebeest, zebra and Thompson’s gazelle transit from the Serengeti, crossing the Mara River into the reserve. Experience a visit to the local Maasai people in their nearby village. Meet these indigenous people and see up close their ancient lifestyle and culture. Want an unforgettable sight? Take a pre-dawn hot-air balloon ride high above the reserve as the morning light breaks across the golden savannah and witness the herds of wildlife emerging into the day. Your driver-guide can arrange either of these optional excursions.
