Arusha to Momella Gate

Start your journey with an early pick-up from your hotel in Arusha or Moshi and enjoy a scenic drive to Momella Gate in Arusha National Park, where the trek begins. After registration and briefing with your guide and armed ranger, you’ll set off through lush rainforest and open grassland complete with opportunities to see wildlife like giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, and monkeys along the trail.

As you walk, the landscape steadily changes, and after a rewarding climb you’ll reach Miriakamba Hut for your first overnight stay. Here you’ll unwind, enjoy a delicious dinner, and take in panoramic views across the park.

Miriakamba to saddle hut summit attempt

You continue your ascent through forest and moorland toward Saddle Hut. The trail offers incredible views of Mount Meru’s crater and volcanic features, and you may choose to take an optional acclimatization hike to Little Meru for stunning sunset vistas. Dinner and rest await you at Saddle Hut as you prepare for summit day.

Summit & Descent to Momella Gate

The third day begins before dawn with a midnight start as your group climbs toward Socialist Peak (4,566 m). Trekking under a sky full of stars, you’ll ascend steep trails and ridges, reaching the summit just in time to watch the sunrise over Kilimanjaro and the surrounding plains a truly breathtaking moment. After celebrating at the top, you’ll descend back through the huts and forests all the way to Momella Gate, where your vehicle will be waiting to return you to Arusha for a well-deserved rest.
