Day 1

Johannesburg to the Lowveld

Departing from Johannesburg at 08h30, our journey leads us on some of the most scenic roads down to the Lowveld region of South Africa, known as Mpumalanga. En route, we will stop for lunch in Schoemanskloof, one of seven spectacular destinations along the Highlands Meander of Mpumalanga. After our lunch stop, we continue our journey to Hazyview.

We spend the next two nights at a lodge which is situated just outside the Kruger National Park, allowing us the opportunity to easily access the park to see animals. We can already start experiencing the beauty and wildlife of this country.

Day 2

Kruger National Park

Kruger National Park

Today we get up early as we want to enter the Southern section of the Kruger National Park as soon as we can for our full-day game viewing. This section of the park offers the opportunity to see some different species of animals like rhinos, wild dogs, herds of buffalos and elephants as well as other predators like lions and hyenas. The south usually has more water, naturally attracting more animals.

Our day is dedicated to driving around in search of these animals. We will stop regularly at some of the park's rest camps for some leg stretches and comfort breaks as well as some waterholes en route.

Late in the afternoon, we slowly make our way to our accommodation within the park.

Day 3

Kruger National Park

Kruger National Park

As we spent the night inside Kruger Park, we have the advantage of getting out before everyone else. We will try to get a head start on the sounds and noises we heard during the night. We will spend another full day on safari where we will travel to different areas of the park to try and spot the elusive wildlife. We will be looking for signs of these creatures and hope to tick off most of the animals on our bucket list.

We have lunch in the park (own expense) and then continue to search for animals.

We exit the park in the late afternoon and head back to our accommodation on the Sabie River in Hazyview where we will enjoy dinner.

Day 4

Greater Kruger Private Game Reserve

Greater Kruger Private Game Reserve

Today we have a bit of a leisurely start. After a restful night, we enjoy a scrumptious breakfast at the lodge. We then depart to a nearby wild animal rehabilitation centre where we get to learn more about endangered wildlife species – some of which we might have already seen in the Kruger.

After a very educational experience, we make our way to Hoedspruit town for lunch after which we will have a quick stop for shopping.

We slowly make our way to a private game reserve in the Greater Kruger region where we will partake in an afternoon safari. As we enjoy a relaxing afternoon-to-evening safari, we sip on a sundowner as the sun says goodbye for the day.

We return to our lodge to enjoy a well-deserved meal.

Day 5

We enjoy an early morning coffee and rusks as we watch the sunrise before we go on another early morning safari. We will travel different routes on each safari to maximise our chances of seeing wildlife. Before the heat of the day, we slowly make our way back to the lodge where we will enjoy brunch.

Later in the afternoon, when it starts cooling down and the animals become more active, we will head out on an afternoon game drive. We will cover a bit more distance which gives us a great opportunity to spot some animals. Keep your eyes open as we search for the animals that inhabit the area. Our guides are well-trained to spot the animals and will share some amazing information with you upon each encounter.

After our game drive, we slowly return to the lodge to enjoy our dinner and share some stories around the campfire about our sightings of the day.

Day 6

Greater Kruger and Panorama Route

Greater Kruger and Panorama Route

After another early morning game drive and a relaxed breakfast, we depart from the Greater Kruger National Park area. Today we will be exploring the beauty of the famous Panorama Route, stopping at most of the highlights that gave it its name. Some of the highlights include God’s Window, Bourke’s Luck Potholes as well as the third-largest canyon in the world, known as the Blyde River Canyon. We will stop for lunch en route (own expense).

The Panorama Route offers some of the most unique and captivating scenery in South Africa and we will spend a good amount of time at each stop to make sure we enjoy what we see and get the full experience.

In the afternoon, we make our way to the Misty Mountains where we will spend the night. We can go for a self-guided hike or partake in an optional Toboggan Ride.

After a restful night, we wake up with sunrise and enjoy a substantial breakfast before slowly making our way back to Johannesburg. We will drive through the small town of Dullstroom, which is also known as the "fly-fishing capital" of South Africa where we will enjoy an own-expense lunch.
