Located southwards of Bogoria and straddling the equator, Lake Nakuru stands out as the most renowned lake in the Rift Valley. Internationally acclaimed for its flamingoes, the lake's alkaline nature adds to its distinction as one of the natural wonders of the world. Today, Lake Nakuru serves as a vital rhino sanctuary, providing a haven for over 40 black rhinos and more than 60 white rhinos. While the rhinos are a significant feature, the flamingos remain the primary attraction. At times, the residence of the lake boasts an impressive congregation of nearly 2 million flamingos, creating a visually stunning deep pink band along the lake shore. Arriving in time for lunch, we then proceed to indulge in an afternoon game drive to witness the diverse wildlife in the park. Following breakfast, we embark on a full-day game drive, complete with a provided packed lunch. The reserve is renowned for its majestic black-manned lions and boasts an abundance of resident wildlife. It stands out as one of the rare places where encountering the big five during a morning game drive is possible. Notably, some cheetahs are remarkably tame, seeking shade under vehicles to escape the hot sun, and some even climb onto the roof for a better vantage point to spot potential prey. For bird enthusiasts, the reserve is a haven with an impressive record of almost 500 species, including 16 species of eagles, numerous hawks and falcons, 6 species of vultures, 8 species of storks, 4 species of bustards (including the Kori bustard, the world's heaviest flying bird), and 9 species of sunbirds.
